In a SQL database Query language query , a correlated sub query also known as a synchronized subquery is a sub query a query nested inside another query that uses values from the outer query in its Where SQL WHERE clause. The sub query is evaluated once for each row processed by the outer query. Here is an example for a typical correlated sub query. In this example we are finding the list of employees employee number and names having more salary than the average salary of all employees in that employee s department. source lang sql SELECT employee number, name FROM employee as e1 WHERE salary SELECT avg salary FROM employee WHERE department e1.department source In the above query the outer query is, source lang sql SELECT employee number, name FROM employee as e1 WHERE salary source And the inner query is, source lang sql SELECT avg salary FROM employee WHERE department e1.department source In the above nested query the inner query has to be executed for every employee as the department will change for every row. Hence the average salary will also change. The effect of correlated sub queries can also be obtained using outer Join SQL Joins . A target benefit plan is a type of pension plan that contains features of a defined contribution plan but is made to appear like a defined benefit plan . It is similar to defined benefit plan in that the annual contribution is determined by a formula to calculate the amount needed each year to accumulate at an assumed interest rate a fund sufficient to pay a projected retirement benefit, the target benefit, to each participant upon reaching retirement . It is similar to a defined contribution plan in that the plan does not guarantee any benefit will be paid. The plan s only obligation is to pay whatever benefit can be provided by the amount in the contributor s account. The actual earnings on the individual accounts may differ from the estimated earnings used in the assumptions and the investment performance of that account through the years. ref The Motley Fool http www.fool.com Retirement RetirementPlanPrimer.htm Retirement Plan Primer Retrieved on July 23, 2007 ref Targets Unreferenced section date January 2012 A target may be set based on final salary. For example, if the defined benefit plan being targeted has a benefit of 1.5 of the final salary for each year of credited service, payable at age 65, then the contribution level for a 25 year old entrant is found by an actuary calculating what contribution level would result in a benefit of 60 of the entrant s final salary. This requires the use of actuarial assumptions of interest rates , salary growth and mortality. If the assumption for salary growth is less than that for interest then the contribution rate for older entrants would be greater than that for younger entrants. Because a target benefit plan is a defined contribution plan and because most defined contribution plans shift investment risk to the plan participant, there is no guarantee that the target will be met, because the assumptions may not be borne out. If actual salary growth exceeds the level assumed then the actual benefit will tend to be low ... more details

Unreferenced date December 2009 In the United Kingdom in 1909 the Osborne judgment ruled that members of trade unions would now have to contract in if they wanted a portion of their salary to go to a trade union, unlike the previous system of contracting out , in which the portion of salary was taken unless the individual explicitly stated otherwise. The judgment threatened one of the Labour party s main funding sources. This was especially detrimental to the Labour Party as it supporters were generally poorer than other political parties. The two elections in 1910 saw Labour gain 40 seats and 42 seats respectively. In 1911 Herbert Henry Asquith s government decided, for the first time, that MPs should receive a salary. Previously, only people with savings or funding organizations behind them could become members of parliament. David Lloyd George , the Chancellor of the Exchequer gave MPs a wage of 400 per annum, which alleviated financial problems. The Osborne judgment was overturned in 1913, by the Trade Union Act 1913 . Orphan date February 2009 The Payroll Room is a term that originated in 2005 in sports 2005 with the National Hockey League s new NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement Collective Bargaining Agreement CBA which was negotiated following a 2004 05 NHL lockout season long lockout . The new CBA includes a salary cap formally titled the Upper Limit of the Payroll Range in the agreement . Payroll room is often called cap room in the Mass media media . It simply refers to how much money in a Team payrolls in the National Hockey League team s salary cap is left over in order to acquire players, whether such players are signed as free agent s or join the team via a trade or Waivers NHL waivers . A team can increase its cap room if it trades high salary ice hockey ice hockey players to other teams and gets lower paid players in their place. A team cannot trade its cap room to another team or defer its cap room to subsequent seasons. Other practices once common in the NHL, such as transfer fee exchanging cash for players or agreeing to pay a portion of a player s remaining salary after trading him, have been explicitly forbidden in the new CBA to try to prevent wealthier teams from evading the restrictions of the cap.
