other uses SCAN or Schedules for Clinical Assessment in Neuropsychiatry is a set of tools created by WHO aimed at diagnosing and measuring mental illness that may occur in adult life. It is not constructed explicitly for use with either ICD 10 or DSM IV but can be used for both systems. The SCAN system was originally called PSE , or Present State Examination , but since version 10 PSE 10 , the commonly accepted name has been SCAN. The current version of SCAN is 2.1. Interview items The entire SCAN interview consists of 1,872 items, spread out over 28 sections. Most patients, however, will only need parts of the interview, and it is assessed in the beginning of each section if the section is actually relevant. The sections are as follows Section 0 Face sheet and sociodemographic items The first section in the SCAN interview is concerned with Sociodemographic factors sociodemographic items such as age, gender, education, etc. Section 1 Beginning the Interview In section 1 the second section , the interviewer starts to ask the respondent or patient about what kinds of symptoms has been experienced. This section is not used in diagnosis, but it is intended as a help for the interviewer to determine which items in the interview to emphasize on. As such, it is a screening tool for part 1 of the interview sections 2 to 13 . Unreferenced date December 2009 Scan chain is a technique used in Design For Test . The objective is to make testing easier by providing a simple way to set and observe every Flip flop electronics flip flop in an Integrated circuit IC .The basic structure of scan include the following set of signals in order to control and observe the scan mechanism. Scan in and scan out define the input and output of a scan chain. In a full scan mode usually each input drives only one chain and scan out observe one as well . A scan enable pin is a special signal that is added to a design. When this signal is asserted, every flip flop in the design is connected into a long shift register . Clock signal which is used for controlling all the FF in the chain during shift phase and the capture phase . An arbitrary pattern can be entered into the chain of flips flops, and the state of every flip flop can be read out. In a full scan design, Automatic test pattern generation is particularly simple. refimprove date January 2012 On computer network s, a service scan identifies the services running on a list of open ports. This is closely tied to port scanning and some tools e.g. nmap , Nessus software nessus support both. A service scan is preferable to referring to a list of TCP and UDP port numbers port list , as it can identify services running on non standard ports, which is common in practice. Service scanners work by sending some probe data to the port, and monitoring the response. For example, sending GET as a probe could detect a web server, and the exact response will give some indication which server. Multiple probes will be sent to identify less common services. The nmap service scan captures information from unidentified ports, and users are encouraged to submit details of these, which will be included in updates. Almost all vulnerability scanner s have a built in service scan. For example, Nessus software Nessus uses the find service plugin to perform a service scan. The results of the service scan are used to determine which tests to run against each port. orphan date December 2007 The HEART scan is a rapid assessment tool for identifying haemodynamically significant cardiac abnormalities in the critical care setting. It is similar to the Focused assessment with sonography for trauma scan in concept, although it is directed at the heart rather than the abdomen. Often called a Calcium Scan it provides a score that can be used to determine the risk of a coronary event. Unlike an EKG which would mostly show the results of past heart attacks and Thallium Stress Test which only shows up advanced blockages of 70 or more . It is an excellent way to determine if a person has Coronary Arterial Disease. Aims The aims of the HEART scan are to assess Detect Cardiovascular Disease Haemodynamic status eg hypovolaemia Heart valve lesions Pericardial effusion Views Used The views used by a HEART scan are the same as or a subset of the full transthoracic views. Views are obtained from up to three windows where possible Parasternal Window Apical Window Subcostal Window Positive Result A positive result on a HEART scan will indicate that there is a clinically significant abnormality in cardiac status. This test is graded using the Agatston Score . It is recommended for men over 35 and women over 45 with a history of smoking or family heart disease. Scan Furniture was a retailer of modern Scandinavia n furniture that operated six stores in the metropolitan Baltimore Washington, D.C. area. Unusually, it was founded in 1960 in a Greenbelt, Maryland , grocery store the Greenbelt Cooperative , where its success led to it getting its own store. It remained part of the cooperative until about 1988, when the Greenbelt Cooperative entered into bankruptcy reorganization and Scan Furniture was sold to a private firm. It was based in Rockville, Maryland , with a distribution center in Columbia, Maryland Columbia . On December 24, 2007 SCAN filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to a report in the Baltimore Business Journal. Its sales dropped 25 million to 17 million from 2005 to 2007, according to court papers filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Baltimore. Description Scan lines In a raster scan, an image is subdivided into a sequence of usually horizontal strips known as scan lines . Each scan line can be transmitted in the form of an analog signal as it is read from ... in a computer system. This ordering of pixels by rows is known as raster order, or raster scan order. Analog television has discrete scan lines discrete vertical resolution , but does not have discrete pixels horizontal resolution it instead varies the signal continuously over the scan line. Thus, while the number of scan lines vertical resolution is unambiguously defined, the horizontal resolution is more approximate, according to how quickly the signal can change over the course of the scan ... vertical sweep per image frame, but one horizontal sweep per line of resolution. The resulting tilt in the scan lines is very small, and is dwarfed ... that once a scan line is complete, a CRT display in effect suddenly jumps internally, by analogy with a typewriter or printer s paper advance or line feed , before creating the next scan line. As discussed above, this does not exactly happen the vertical sweep continues at a steady rate over a scan ... equivalent to scan across the photosensitive drum, and paper movement provides the other scan axis. Considering typical printer resolution, the downhill effect is minuscule. Inkjet printers have multiple nozzles in their printheads, so many dozens to hundreds of scan lines are written together, and paper advance prepares for the next batch of scan lines. Unreferenced date April 2009 Dual Scan , also known as dual scan supertwist nematic or DSTN , is an LCD technology in which a screen is divided into two sections which are simultaneously refreshed giving faster refresh rate than traditional passive matrix screens. It is an improved form of Super twisted nematic display supertwist nematic display that offers low power consumption but inferior sharpness and brightness compared to TFT LCD TFT screens . For several years late 90s to early 2000s , TFT screens were only found in high end laptop s due to them being more expensive and lower end laptops offering DSTN screens only. This was at a time when the screen was often the most expensive component of laptops. The price difference between a laptop with DSTN and one with TFT could easily be 400 or more. However, TFT gradually became cheaper and has essentially captured the entire market. DSTN display quality is poor compared to TFT, with visible noise, smearing, much lower contrast and slow response. Such screens are unsuitable for viewing movies.
