Before the War Following his subjugation, Decebalus complied with Rome for a time, but was soon inciting revolt among tribes against them and pillaging Roman colonies across the Danube . True to the intrepid and optimistic nature he had become renowned for, Trajan rallied his forces once more in 106 for a secondwar against the Kingdom of Roman Dacia Dacia . The War At the start of the war, Trajan built another bridge over the Danube to move his legions faster into Dacia. Unlike the first conflict, the secondwar involved several skirmishes that proved costly to the Roman military, who, facing large numbers of allied tribes, struggled to attain a decisive victory. Eventually, however, Rome prevailed and took Dacia. An assault against the capital Sarmisegetusa took place at the beginning of the summer of 106 with the participation of the legions Legio II Adiutrix II Adiutrix and Legio IV Flavia Felix IV Flavia Felix and a detachment vexillatio from Legio VI Ferrata see also Battle of Sarmisegetusa . The Dacians repelled the first attack, but the Romans destroyed the water pipes to the Dacian capital. The city was burned to the ground. He requested support from King Nicomedes III of Bithynia . Additional troops were not supplied due to the claim that contracted Roman tax collectors had enslaved Italians unable to pay their debts. Marius decreed that any allied friendly Italian should be released if they were in Roman slavery. Around 800 Italian slaves were released from Sicily, frustrating many non Italians who thought they would be released as well, and many of these abandoned their masters incorrectly believing to have been freed. A rebellion broke out when they were ordered back to servitude by the Governor. A slave by the name of Salvius was following in the footsteps of Eunus , fighting for his rights and elected leader of this rebellion. The uprising began in September 1846 and continued until May 1849, spreading to Galicia Spain Galicia . Theoretically, the war was fought to facilitate the marriage of Isabella with the Carlist pretender, Carlos, Count of Montemol n , which was supported by the moderate party and by the Carlists. The marriage never took place, as Isabella was wed to Francis, Duke of C diz . The conflict was minor, leading some historians to question even the label war. It coincided with the democratic Revolutions of 1848 , when Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies Maria Christina revoked the constitution of Ram n Mar a Narv ez . Narv ez himself led the counterattack against the revolt in Galicia while Fernando Fern ndez de C rdova , captain general of Catalonia, put down the isolated rebel cells in that region by early 1849.
