  1. Salic Law (solitaire)

Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 Salic Law is a solitaire card game using two decks of 52 playing card s each. It is named after the Salic Law which prohibits women from ascending to the throne or obtaining inheritance. First, the Queens are taken out of the stock. Then a King is placed on the tableau. The rest on the cards are shuffled and dealt on the King to form a column. The player deals as many cards over the King until another King appears, starting a new column. This is done until all eight Kings are laid out and all cards have been dealt, resulting in eight columns of various lengths. During dealing, whenever an Ace appears, it is put onto the foundations. In fact, once aces are in the foundations over the kings, they can be built up to Jacks regardless of suit, even while dealing is in progress as long as the top cards of the columns already dealt are available for play, as well as any applicable card that appears during dealing. Once all cards have been dealt, building to the foundations continue. Cards on the tableau cannot be built on each other. However, a column containing just a King is considered vacant and any card can be placed there. One card can be moved at a time and as mentioned earlier, the top card of each column is available for play. The game is won when all cards available are placed on the foundations with the Jacks on the top of the foundations and the Kings exposed. Sometimes, players still give the Queens a decorative role by putting them between the foundations and the King columns or shuffling them with the rest of the deck and putting them between the foundations and the columns later. 1. Semi-generic

Semi generic is a legal term used in by the United States Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau to refer to a specific type of wine designation. The majority of these were originally based on the names of well known Europe an wine producing regions. Consumers didn t recognize grape varieties at that time and New World producers used the familiar names to suggest the style of wine they were offering for sale. U.S. regulations require that semi generic names for example, California Champagne may be used on a wine label only if there appears next to such name the appellation of the actual place of origin in order to prevent any possible consumer confusion . Recent problems Over the past thirty years, with the popularity of varietal labeling, semi generic names have largely fallen out of use. They are typically only used on inexpensive wines sold in jug wine jug s or Box wine carton s and most of those now use the more popular varietal labeling. The use of these names is a subject of some disagreement. Through international trade trade agreements , the European Union has protected most of these names in its major export markets. In 1993, Australia agreed not to use European place names and France and Italy agreed to stop using the term Tokay , which is now reserved for Hungarian wines. The use of semi generic names is beginning to become a problem for US domestic and foreign policy because as many American Viticultural Area s AVAs are becoming more popular around the world, they are seeking greater protection for their names inside and outside the U.S. Some U.S. states have laws which additionally restrict or prohibit the use of semi generic names wines produced within their borders. Image semi sub inside.jpg thumb 250px Right The inside of a submerged semi submarine Semi submarines are Semi submersible submersibles vessels that are capable of diving, similarly to submarine submarines . However, unlike submarines, they cannot be entirely submerged below the surface of the water. Design The most common design is one similar to a ship. The passenger cabin is relatively low, a few meters below sea level . The cabin is equipped with large windows into the water. The passengers can observe the marine environment that is passed during the voyage. There are significant differences between a submarine and a semi submarine from an engineering point of view. Submarines are human occupied pressure vessels, while pressure concerns apply to a lesser extent to semi submarines. As the pressure close to the water surface is relatively low, the viewing windows can be bigger. In some advanced designs the windows enclose the majority of the submersed hull, creating an experience comparable to scuba diving . Customers can leave the submerged cabin for the unsubmerged deck at any time. Use Semi submarines can be used for Research vessel research , but they are most commonly used in the tourism tourism industry. However, large tourism orientated semi submarines should not be confused with narco submarine s which are smaller home made semi submarines used to smuggle drugs. Legal Status Semi submarines do not have an international classified status. Their operating range from the native port might be limited by the local authorities. Internally they are too close to the ceiling to have a view. Semi basement is architectural term for a floor of a building that is half below ground, rather than entirely such as a true basement or Basement cellar . Traditionally semi basements were designed in larger houses where staff are kept. A semi basement usually contained kitchen s and domestic offices. The advantage over a basement is that a semi basement is lighter as it can have windows, albeit interior windows that are often too high to enjoy a view. Historically this was an advantage as the servants, who traditionally inhabited such a floor, would not have the opportunity to waste time by looking out of the window. The feature also has the aesthetic value of raising the ground floor, containing the building s reception rooms higher from the ground in order that they could enjoy better views, and be more free from the damp problems which always arose before the days of modern technology. Today, London estate agents when selling former servant s rooms as modern apartment s often refer to the semi basement as the garden floor . 1. Semi-authoritarian

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Orphan date October 2009 The term semi authoritarian is used to refer to a State polity state or regime that shares both democratic and authoritarian features. According to Marina Ottaway , such states are ambiguous systems that combine rhetorical acceptance of liberal democracy , the existence of some formal democratic institutions, and political liberties with essentially illiberal or even authoritarian traits. A young and unstable democracy struggling toward improvement and consolidation is usually not classified as a semi authoritarian country. Rather, the term semi authoritarian is reserved for stable regimes that combine democratic and authoritarian elements. Most of them are dominant party system s that is, states where opposition parties are allowed and free elections are held, but where the opposition has no real chance of winning. Sometimes the dominant party maintains power through election fraud , while other times the elections themselves are fair, but the electoral campaigns preceding them are not. The late 1980s and early 1990s have seen the demise of many different kinds of authoritarian governments communist state s in Eastern Europe , right wing military dictatorship s in Latin America , and various others in Africa . Often, the governments that replaced them declared their allegiance to democracy and implemented genuine democratic reforms in the beginning, but eventually turned into semi authoritarian regimes. Again, women are given more leniency, and are often allowed to wear a T shirt if it is of a luxurious material. Men may wear a necktie , but it is certainly not expected. Almost any kind of Coat clothing coat or hat may go with semi casual dress in inclement weather. However, a top hat or a woman s Easter bonnet would be decidedly too formal. In most contexts, excessive jewelry is considered out of place with semi casual dress. Traditionally, this is especially true for men. Hair dyed in artificial colors and heavy cosmetics are generally considered inappropriate for semi casual wear, although some offices exhibit leniency.
