  1. Wisdom tradition

Wisdom Tradition is a term that is sometimes given to the inner core or mysticism mystic aspects of a Religion religious or Spirituality spiritual tradition , without the trappings, doctrinal literalism, sectarianism , and power structures that are associated with institutionalised religion. The Wisdom Tradition provides a conceptual framework for the development of the inner self, living a spiritual life, and the realisation of Enlightenment or of Union with God. Ken Wilber frequently uses the term in the plural in his own books, shadowing the theologian Huston Smith who popularized the usage. In this context it can be considered synonymous with Esotericism , but does not have the faintly Western Middle Eastern Theosophical nuances that are sometimes associated with the latter term. 1. Prosopopoeia

A prosopopoeia lang el is a rhetorical device in which a speaker or writer communicates to the audience by speaking as another person or object. The term literally derives from the Greek language Greek roots pr sopon face, person, and poi in to make, to do . Prosopopoeiae are used mostly to give another perspective on the action being described. For example, in Cicero s Pro Caelio , Cicero speaks as Appius Claudius Caecus, a stern old man. This serves to give the ancient perspective on the actions of the plaintiff. Prosopopoeiae can also be used to take some of the load off of the communicator by placing an unfavorable point of view on the shoulders of an imaginary stereotype. The audience s reactions are predisposed to go towards this figment rather than the communicator himself. This term also refers to a figure of speech in which an animal or inanimate object is ascribed human characteristics or is spoken of in anthropomorphic language. Quintilian writes of the power of this figure of speech to bring down the gods from heaven, evoke the dead, and give voices to cities and states Institutes of Oratory see ref. . A classic example of this usage can be found in the book of Sirach in the Biblical Apocrypha , where Wisdom is personified and made to speak to the people and to the reader quote text Wisdom sings her own praises, before her own people she proclaims her glory in the assembly of the Most High she opens her mouth, in the presence of his hosts she declares her worth From the mouth of the Most High I came forth, and mistlike covered the earth ... sign Biblical Apocrypha Apocrypha source Sirach 24,1 3 Examples If Miller Huggins was alive today, he d be turning over in his grave . 1. Law of Life

The Law of Life is a term coined by author Farley Mowat in his 1952 book People of the Deer , and popularized by Daniel Quinn , to denote a universal system of various natural law natural principles , any of which tend to best foster life &mdash in other words, any of which best guides behavior that tends toward the reproductive success and survival of some particular gene pool . The idea posits that, in general, the most fitness biology fit organism s instinct instinctively behave according to some natural rule often, these rules vary among and are specific to the species . Since every organism has some instinctive law it can follow to be the most reproductively successful, this very notion is a sort of law itself, true of all living beings thus, the Law of Life. In his 1996 novel , The Story of B , Quinn writes, A biologist would probably say what I m calling the Law of Life is just a collection of evolutionary stable strategy evolutionarily stable strategies &mdash the universal set of such strategies, in fact. Quinn points out that this is a physical law , like Newton s law of universal gravitation gravity , not a commandment like thou shalt not kill nor a legislative ruling like pay taxes . As he puts it, the latter two are written where only man can read them in books , and that they can be changed by a vote, while the Law of Life is written in the fabric of the universe and cannot be broken.
