People walk up the stairs to get to the top of this slide along with a mat, then sit down, and place the mat on the slide. They then slide down the slide. There are many types of this State Fair 5 lane, 90 foot 3 4 lane, and the 65 foot 3 4 lane. The ride sometimes says Fun Slide in lights at the very top of the slide. The ride can be made faster using a bees wax polish or can be slowed using a sticky sugar based soda. At the bottom of the ride there is coconut matting this brings the riders to a safe stop and can be from 3 to 5 meters in length, this matting is the same as used in houses as a door mat for cleaning your shoes. Although in the UK they are in a lot of static parks there are only 5 mobile ones now as they have been replaced by the inflatable slide as there is less work and cheaper to run. gallery Astroglide slide.jpg gallery State Fairs Many Funfair state fairs might have larger Fun Slides. Image Curveasy.jpg thumb 200 px right A slide chart is a hand held device, usually of paper, cardboard, or plastic, for conducting simple calculations or looking up information. A circular slide chart is sometimes referred to as a wheel chart or Volvelle . Unlike other hand held mechanical calculating devices such as slide rules and addiator s, which have been replaced by electronic calculators and computer software, wheel charts and slide charts have survived to the present time. There are a number of companies who design and manufacture these devices. Unlike the general purpose mechanical calculators, slide charts are usually devoted to carrying out a particular specialized calculation, or displaying information on a single product or a particular process. For example, the CurveEasy wheel chart displays information related to spherical geometry calculations and the Prestolog calculator is used for cost profit calculations. Another example of a wheel chart is the Planisphere , which shows the location of stars in the sky for a given location, date, and time. Slide charts are often associated with particular sports, political campaigns or commercial companies. For example, a pharmaceutical company may create wheel charts printed with their company name and product information for distribution to medical practitioners. Slide charts are common collectables. File SIG Pro SP2022 p1030057 58.jpg thumb A SIG Sauer P226 with slide closed top and opened bottom . On the bottom view, slide is locked in place by the slide stop . The slide is the part of the weapon on a majority of semi automatic pistol s that moves during the operating cycle and generally houses the firing pin or striker and the extractor, and serves as the Bolt firearm bolt . It is spring loaded so that once it has moved to its rearmost position in the firing cycle, spring tension brings it back to the starting position chambering a fresh cartridge during the motion provided that the magazine firearms magazine is not empty. Through the principles of recoil operation recoil or Blowback arms blowback operation, the slide is forced back with each shot. Generally, this action serves three purposes ejecting the spent casing, cocking the hammer or striker for the next shot, and loading another cartridge into the chamber firearms chamber when the slide comes forward. Once the magazine firearms magazine is empty, the slide will lock back, released only when the slide stop is depressed if a new magazine firearms magazine is inserted before the slide stop is depressed then a new cartridge will be chambered. Some handguns also utilise the slide stop as a means of releasing the slide , when the slide stop is held upwards for purposes such as field stripping eliminating the need for any further lock mechanisms and the room that these may use inside the gun. Automatically cocking the hammer or striker is an important function of Trigger firearms double action single action pistols. However, some semi auto pistols are Trigger firearms double action only , and are designed to omit this step cocking the hammer or striker . Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date February 2009 Bertlemann slide , or bert , is a skateboarding trick where the skateboarder slides on the wheels of his skateboard . A bert is usually performed on banks or transitions. When performing a bert the skateboarder crouches down while doing a frontside carve, plants his front hand on the ground and extends his back foot and torso making the back wheels slide out. After the slide the skateboard has made a 180 degree sweeping turn and the skateboarder pushes himself up and continues back to the direction where he came from. When performed in a transition it is possible to convert a bertlemann slide in to a grind by timing the slide so that during the apex of the sweep the back truck hits the coping. A bertlemann was originally a simple turn planted hand that did not involve sliding. It was named after Larry Bertlemann , a surfer who first performed the trick on a surfboard, by the Z Boys , who imitated Bertlemann s style on skateboards and ended up creating this trick.
