Orphan date October 2008 Slidingwindow based part of speech tagging is used to part of speech tagging part of speech tag a text. A high percentage of words in a natural language are words which out of context can be assigned more than one part of speech. The percentage of these ambiguous words is typically around 30 , although it depends greatly on the language. Solving this problem is very important in many areas of natural language processing . For example in machine translation changing the part of speech of a word can dramatically change its translation. Slidingwindow based part of speech taggers are programs which assign a single part of speech to a given lexical form of a word, by looking at a fixed sized window of words around the word to be disambiguated. The two main advantages of this approach are It is possible to automatically train the tagger, getting rid of the need of manually tagging a corpus. Nofootnotes date February 2008 Puzzles A sliding puzzle , sliding block puzzle , or sliding tile puzzle is a puzzle that challenges a player to slide usually flat pieces along certain routes usually on a board to establish a certain end configuration. The fifteen puzzle is the oldest type of sliding block puzzle. It was invented by Noyes Chapman and created a puzzle craze in 1880. Sam Loyd is often wrongly credited with making sliding puzzles popular based on his false claim that he invented the fifteen puzzle. Unlike other tour puzzle s, a sliding block puzzle prohibits lifting any piece off the board. This property separates sliding puzzles from rearrangement puzzle s. Hence, finding moves and the paths opened up by each move within the two dimensional confines of the board are important parts of solving sliding block puzzles. Sliding puzzles are essentially two dimensional in nature, even if the sliding is facilitated by mechanically interlinked pieces like partially encaged marbles or three dimensional tokens. As this example shows, some sliding puzzles are mechanical puzzles . However, the mechanical fixtures are usually not essential to these puzzles the parts could as well be tokens on a flat board that are moved according to certain rules. A sliding tackle or slide tackle is a Tackle football move tackle in association football football in which a player attempts to take the ball away from an opposing player by deliberately leaving his feet and sliding along the ground with one leg extended to push the ball away from the opposing player. Sliding tackles can often be sources of controversy, particularly when players being tackled fall down over the tackler s foot or the ball stopped by the tackler s foot , and penalties, free kicks and cards are assessed or are conspicuous by their absence . Commonly associated fouls and misconduct A sliding tackle is not in itself foul play, however there are a number of foul football foul s that commonly occur during the execution of a sliding tackle. Examples of such fouls punishable by a direct free kick or penalty kick include When a player tackles an opponent to gain possession of the ball, making contact with the opponent before touching the ball When a player in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force kicks or attempts to kick an opponent trips or attempts to trip an opponent raises his her football boots perpendicular to the field. Playing in a dangerous manner is punishable by an indirect free kick . Basal sliding is the act of a glacier sliding over the bed before it due to meltwater under the ice acting as a lubricant . This movement very much depends on the temperature of the area, the slope of the glacier, the bed s sediment size, the amount of meltwater from the glacier, and the glacier s size. The movement that happens to these glaciers as they slide is that of a jerky motion where any seismic event s, especially at the base of glacier, can cause movement. Most movement is found to be caused by pressured meltwater or very small water saturated sediments underneath the glacier. This gives the glacier a much smoother surface on which to move as opposed to a harsh surface that tends to slow the speed of the sliding. Although meltwater is the most common source of basal sliding, it has been shown that water saturated sediment can also play up to 90 of the basal movement these glaciers make. The most activity seen from basal sliding is within thin glaciers that are resting on a steep slope, and this most commonly happens during the summer seasons when the sun melts away some of the exposed glacier. Factors that can slow or stop basal sliding relate to the glacier s composition and also the surrounding environment. Glacier movement is resisted by debris , whether it is inside the glacier or under the glacier. This can affect the amount of movement that is made by the glacier by a large percentage especially if the slope on which it lies is low. The traction caused by this sediment can halt a steadily moving glacier if it interferes with the underlying sediment or water that was helping to carry it. Great Lakes were created due to basal movement. cn date February 2012 References Easterbrook, Jason . 1999. Surface Processes and Landforms, 2nd ed. Sliding is a type of frictional motion between two surface s in contact. This can be contrasted to rolling motion. Both types of motion may occur in Bearing mechanical bearings . The relative motion or tendency toward such motion between two surfaces is resisted by friction . Friction may damage or wear the surfaces in contact. However, wear can be reduced by lubrication . The science and technology of friction, lubrication, and wear is known as tribology Sliding may occur between two objects of arbitrary shape, whereas rolling friction is the frictional force associated with the rotational movement of a somewhat disclike or other circular object along a surface. A sliding sleeve is a standard component for the completion of an Oil well oil or gas well . Their main uses are to shut off flow from one or more Petroleum reservoir reservoir zones or to regulate pressure between zones. There are two main categories of sliding sleeves open close and choking. Open close sleeves are shifted between a full open position and a closed position. They are used to shut off flow from a zone for economic reasons or to shut off a zone that is depleting or producing too much water. In multi zone wells, they are used to regulate which zones to produce from and which ones to shut off. Mechanically actuated sleeves are simple and inexpensive but require actuation by a lock, which must be run in the well on wireline or coiled tubing . Hydraulically actuated sleeves are more complicated but can be actuated from a small pump at surface. King sleeves can be used to regulate the pressure between two or more zones. They are also used to regulate the flow of fluid into a well during proppant fracturing or hydraulic fracturing operations. Choking sleeves are all hydraulically actuated and have a much more complex design than open close sleeves. This Window UK was formed by Peter Bright around 1985 earlier tape experiments exist from 1979 to 1984. These tape experiments formed the basic philosophy of This Window. The Analog recording analogue tape machine became the main instrument used to create songs . This interest in experimentation had been nurtured whilst being a member of the Exeter College of Art bands, T.34 1978 1980 and The Urge 1979 . The Urge supported Adam and the Ants and Bauhaus band Bauhaus and were offered a record contract with 4AD but decided to split up and consequently didn t sign. In A Glass Darkly 1981 was a project with the lead singer from The Urge, Russell Young and two ballet dancers who performed to a tape backing track of a dripping tap valve tap , only a handful of gigs were played in London . This project ended and Peter later joined Finish The Story 1981 1986 as guitarist. The perfect conduit for This Window s music and art was the Cassette Culture and Mail Art scenes. These social network network s of artists and musicians encouraged an early form of open source cooperation , with projects being shared and created. Unreferenced date December 2009 IPstack In Transmission Control Protocol Transmission Control Protocol TCP , the congestion window is one of the factors that determines the number of bytes that can be outstanding at any time. This is not to be confused with the TCP window size which is maintained by the receiver. This is a means of stopping the link between two places from getting overloaded with too much traffic. The size of this window is calculated by estimating how much congestion there is between the two places. The sender maintains the congestion window. When a connection is set up, the congestion window is set to the maximum segment size MSS allowed on that connection. Further variance in the congestion window is dictated by an AIMD Additive Increase Multiplicative Decrease approach. This means that if all segments are received and the acknowledgments reach the sender on time, some constant is added to the window size. The window keeps growing exponentially until a timeout occurs or the receiver reaches its limit a threshold value ssthresh . After this the congestion window increases linearly at the rate of 1 congestion window packets on each new acknowledgement received.
