Unreferenced date May 2009 A softwaredesigndocument SDD is a written description of a software product, that a software designer writes in order to give a software development team an overall guidance of the architecture of the software project. An SDD usually accompanies an architecture diagram with pointers to detailed feature specifications of smaller pieces of the design. Practically, a designdocument is required to coordinate a large team under a single vision. A designdocument needs to be a stable reference, outlining all parts of the software and how they will work. The document is commanded to give a fairly complete description, while maintaining a high level view of the software. There are two kinds of design documents called HLDD high level designdocument and LLDD low level designdocument . Parts The SDD contains the following documents The Data driven design data design describes structures that reside within the software. Attributes and relationships between data object s dictate the choice of data structures . The Software architecture architecture design uses information flowing characteristics, and maps them into the program structure. The transformation mapping method is applied to exhibit distinct boundaries between incoming and outgoing data. The data flow diagrams allocate control input, processing and output along three separate modules. The interface design describes internal and external program interfaces, as well as the design of human interface. Internal and external interface designs are based on the information obtained from the analysis model. The Procedure term procedural design describes structured programming concepts using graphical, tabular and textual notations. advert date September 2008 refimprove date September 2008 Catalysis is a method for the specification and design of component based computer systems originally developed by Desmond D Souza and Alan Cameron Wills in their 1999 book ref Objects, Components and Frameworks with UML The Catalysis Approach , D Souza, D.F. and Wills, A.C., Reading MA Addison Wesley, 1999 ISBN 0 201 31012 0 ref . It shows how to make precise abstractions, and emphasizes the formal specification of use cases using pre and postconditions and guarantees clauses. It also places stress on the specification of collaboration protocols so that kits of components can interact in a coherent pluggable fashion. This removes much of the need to build translation or mapping code. Catalysis therefore enhances the Unified Modelling Language UML with a definite method, showing how the various UML diagrams relate to each other and offering many design heuristics and process and design pattern s. Catalysis builds on the Syntropy method and key ideas from both influenced the development of UML 2.0 . Unreferenced date March 2007 A Vision Document is a Software development process software process document that describes the overall vision , or plan, for a particular piece of software. It defines the stakeholders view of the product to be developed, specified in terms of the stakeholders key needs and features. Containing an outline of the envisioned core requirements, it provides the contractual basis for the more detailed technical requirements. It is much shorter and more general than a product requirements document or a marketing requirements document , which outline the specific product plan and marketing plan respectively. Purpose The Vision provides a high level, sometimes contractual, basis for the more detailed technical requirements. It captures the essence of the envisaged solution in the form of high level requirements and design constraints that give the reader an overview of the system to be developed from a behavioral requirements perspective. It provides input to the project approval process and is, therefore, closely related to the Business case . It communicates the fundamental why and what for the project and is a gauge against which all future decisions should be validated. Another name used for this artifact is the Product Requirement Document. A vision document generally contains Introduction Business Needs Requirements Product Solution Overview Major Features Optional Scope & Limitations Other Needs Timing The Vision is created early in the Inception phase.
