Solon McDade born in Edmonton , Alberta , March 1974 is a Canadian musician and composer . He began playing the cello at age 4 and by the time he was 9 he was playing the violin , double bass and doing shows with his family in The McDade Family Band on the washtub bass . By the age of sixteen he was already a veteran of the Canadian folk festival circuit and had performed at such events as The Commonwealth Games opening ceremony 1982 , The Toronto CNE 1984 and Expo 86. Before turning eighteen Solon had toured Canada with blues legend Luther Guitar Jr. Johnson as well as performed with other blues greats Billy Boy Arnold , Wildchild Butler and Michael Coleman blues Michael Coleman . Solon Michaelides 1905 1979 was a Cypriot composer, teacher and musicologist. He taught himself the guitar as a schoolkid. He was appointed guitar teacher in the Cypriot Conservatory , where he learned piano . He studied in the UK and France . After his studies he spend the next two decades in Limassol . He created a choir that survives today as Aris choir , with which he presented opera Dido and Aeneas and oratorio classics as well as choral works. He was a music teacher at Lanitio school . He moved to Salonika in the 1950s, where he continued teaching and created a symphony orchestra that was nationalised in the 1960s and is still active today. He wrote extensively, including books on the harmony of modern music, Cypriot music, modern Greek music and his Encyclopaedia of Ancient Greek Music. He composed several works for choir , orchestra and solo such as the archaic suite, Eleftheria etc. His archive was left to the municipality of Limassol where he spent his most creative years. There is a dedicated museum archive building housing the archive next to the municipal conservatoire. Works by Michaelides have been recorded by Greek symphony orchestras. His family then moved to Famagusta and he graduated from the Gymnasium of Famagusta with distinction and being awarded the Palamas Prize. Working for a short time at the Board of Commerce, he then went to England where he studied law and was called to the Bar Lincoln s . From 1961 he practiced law in Nicosia. On 10.9.1971 he was appointed Judge of the District Court of Famagusta, subsequently serving at the District Court of Nicosia from 10.9.1973 . On 10.10.1980 he was appointed Senior District Judge and on 1.1.1982 President of District Court, serving at the District Court of Nicosia and from 1.9.1987 at the District Court of Larnaca Famagusta. On 19.11.1988 he was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court. He left the Court on 30.4.2003, upon his appointment as Attorney General. He resigned from that position in May 2005 in connection with a judgment of the Supreme Court, considering, as he stated in his announcement, that the case is inextricably interwoven with the very essence of the administration of justice, the principles of the rule of law and the democratic principle of the separation of powers. Solon W. Pierce March 7, 1831 September 23, 1903 was an American politician, author, attorney, and newspaper publisher editor. Pierce was born in Yorkshire Cattaraugus County, New York Cattaraugus County , New York in 1831, studied at the Mendon Cobblestone Academy Mendon Academy in Monroe County, New York Monroe County , NY and settled in Adams County, Wisconsin in 1854, taking up practice as a lawyer in the county seat of Friendship when he was admitted to the bar in 1858. He was first elected district attorney of Adams County in 1861, and the same year with several associates founded the Adams County Press, just a few weeks after the outbreak of the American Civil War US Civil War . Pierce remained as editor and publisher of this newspaper one of the first published in Adams County for the majority of the next 40 years until his death in 1903. In 1864 Pierce enlisted in the Union army, was commissioned a First Lieutenant, and saw action with the regiments that made up the 9th Army Corps, Army of the Potomac at the Siege of Petersburg , among other battles toward the end of the Civil War. These experiences formed the basis of his 1866 book Battle Fields and Camp Fires of the 38th Regiment, published by the Daily Wisconsin Printing House of Milwaukee. After his honorable discharge in 1865, Pierce resumed his law practice and newspaper duties, serving several years as county judge, and beginning in 1870 was elected as a legislator to the Wisconsin State Assembly Wisconsin Assembly , being re elected to the same body in 1877, 1878, 1880, 1881, 1882, and 1897.
