Sorrel Hays b. 1941 is an United States American pianist, composer and artist. Life Doris Ernestine Hays was born in Memphis , Tennessee , and in 1985 adopted her grandmother s family name of Sorrel. She studied music with Harold Cadek at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga , graduating in 1963. She continued her education for three years studying with Friedrich W hrer and Hedwig Bilgram at the Hochschule f r Musik in Munich , Germany . Hetty Sorrel is a major character in George Eliot s novel Adam Bede 1859 . Beautiful but thoughtless Hetty lives in the fictional community of Hayslope a rural, pastoral and close knit community in 1799. Her home is on Mr. Martin Poyser s dairy farm as she is his niece. Because she is an extremely pretty girl, she is admired by Mr. Craig and Adam Bede character Adam Bede as well as Captain Arthur Donnithorne . She does not have many attractive personal qualities, however, and is very vain and selfish. She is a cousin by marriage of Dinah Morris , a fervent Methodism Methodist lay preacher.
