The mission of SAIS is to provide leadership, accreditation services, and professional development resources that will strengthen member schools as they fulfill their missions. In addition to representing schools in 11 Southeastern states, SAIS also serves as a regional accrediting association, working independently and in conjunction with the SouthernAssociation of Colleges and Schools SACS . SAIS is approved by the NAIS Commission on Accreditation. SAIS SACS Accreditation History SAIS has been offering a dual accreditation since 1953. In 2004, SAIS began offering a dual accreditation with SACS, the SouthernAssociation of Colleges and Schools . In the last 10 years SAIS has been working with SACS to develop standards and self study processes more useful for independent schools. The participating school must meet a SINGLE set of standards, the ones found in the Guidebook for SAIS SACS Accreditation. Additionally, SAIS SACS accreditation is contingent upon the school meeting all standards by responding in writing to each indicator. When evidence of an indicator is not shown, the school must explain how the standard is met in the absence of the indicator. Established in 1904, the SouthernCalifornia College of Optometry SCCO is a private, non profit, educational institution dedicated to educating today s minds to provide tomorrow s eye, vision and health care. SCCO grants a four year, professional degree, Doctor of Optometry O.D. , a Master of Science in Vision Science M.S. and it also offers a Vision Care Assistant V.C.A. Program. The Southern Historical Association SHA is an organization of history historians focusing on the history of the Southern United States commonly referred to as southern history . It was organized on November 2, 1934. Its objectives are the promotion of interest and research in southern history, the collection and preservation of the Southern United States South s historical records, and the encouragement of state and local historical societies in the South. As a secondary purpose the organization fosters the teaching and study of all areas of history in the South. The SHA publishes the Journal of Southern History . The association s 2009 president was Jack Temple Kirby , who died on August 6, 2009 vice president William J. Cooper presided in his stead at the SHA s annual meeting in November 2009. John B. Boles is editor of the Journal of Southern History , and John C. Inscoe is the organization s secretary treasurer.
