    The ESA Space Debris Telescope is located at the Teide Observatory on the island of Tenerife , Spain . The telescope is ESA s Optical Ground Station forming a part of the Artemis satellite Artemis experiment. As a large part of the observation time is dedicated to space debris surveys, in particular the observation of space debris in the geostationary ring and in geostationary transfer orbit s, the term ESA Space Debris Telescope became used very frequently. Space debris surveys are carried out every month, centered around New Moon.     Merge to Joint Dark Energy Mission date September 2010 The Dark Energy Space Telescope Destiny , was a planned project by NASA and United States Department of Energy DOE , designed to perform precision measurements of the universe to provide an understanding of dark energy . The space observatory will derive the expansion of the universe by measuring up to 3,000 distant supernova e each year of its three year mission lifetime, and will additionally study the structure of matter in the universe by measuring millions of Galaxy galaxies in a weak gravitational lensing survey. The Destiny spacecraft features an optical telescope with a 1.65m primary mirror. The telescope images infrared light onto an array of solid state detectors. The mission is designed to be deployed in a halo orbit about the sun earth L2 Lagrangian point . Destiny is currently in a two year study phase, which will refine its design and performance predictions in preparation for future approval for deployment. Should Destiny be approved, it could launch in 2013, with preliminary results produced within a year, and final results around 2017. Twirled Pail A pair of objects, one the mirror assembly and the other a counterweight possibly containing a camera assembly, are spun up to induce centripetal acceleration on the surface of the mirror assembly. 2. Half Toroid A hollow toroid torus a doughnut or spare tire shaped object is spun up to maintain centripetal acceleration against the inside wall. The camera assembly sits in the center. The torus width is arbitrarily large. Optional other pieces include a large flat mirror in the center to allow randomly orienting the mirror without frequently changing the axis of spin. 3. Balloon A balloon with a reflective liquid on the inside is spun up and it deforms itself into a parabolic shape. A flat mirror on the inside reflects light to the concave surface. Regardless of the specific configuration, such a telescope would be similar to an earth based liquid mirror telescope. However, instead of relying on Earth s gravity to maintain the necessary parabolic shape of the rotating mercury mirror, it relies on artificial gravity instead.
