It has the distinction of being the smallest hospital in the state. History In 1933, a large residence on Monroe Street owned by the Van Reed family was purchased by Dr. Thomas E. Ward, who converted it into the county s first hospital. The American Hospital Association recognized it in 1936, and in 1944 the non profit Community Hospital Association was formed to oversee hospital management. Many additions were made over subsequent decades, including an 18 bed wing in 1956, a new patient wing, ancillary wing, coronary care unit, revamped lobby and chapel in 1970, and an convert 18000 sqft m2 adj on emergency room and outpatient service expansion in 1993. The non profit St. Vincent Health network assumed sponsorship of the hospital in 1996, and in January 1997 renamed it to St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital. A 16 patient wing was completed in February 1999. Services St. Vincent Williamsport Hospital primarily serves residents in Warren County, Indiana Warren and Benton County, Indiana Benton counties, and maintains a 24 hour emergency service as well as surgical facilities, diagnostic services and clinics. It employs a staff of approximately 180, including 13 physicians. The hospital also operates two satellite clinics St. Vincent s North on U.S. Route 41 north of town, and St. Vincent s South near Veedersburg, Indiana Veedersburg . St. Vincent Hospital is a hospital in Indianapolis , Indiana , United States USA . It is the flagship installation of St. Vincent Health which operates 20 facilities over 46 Indiana counties and is one of the largest ministries in the Roman Catholic Church Catholic health care organization Ascension Health . History The Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul came to Indianapolis in 1881 on the urging of Bishop Silas Chatard . Four sisters arrived with a total of 34.77 amongst them and set up in an unused seminary building next to St Joseph s Church in Downtown Indianapolis. By 1889, the Daughters of Charity moved their hospital to a new location at the corner of South St. and Delaware St. Rapid growth caused them to move once more in 1913 to a new larger facility at on Fall Creek Drive.
