Much of it was shot inside of Cassavetes personal home. The film is based on the 1980 play of the same name by Ted Allan but the correlation between the screenplay and the play is minimal. In the stage production, the role of Robert Harmon was played by Jon Voight Cassavetes took up this role for the film version. Love Streams was originally released with a running time of 141 minutes. It was briefly available on videotape in the mid 80s, in a version cut to 122 minutes by the distributor one scene was edited and several unusual visual effects the insertion of film leader black leader and jump cut s were removed. Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association is a not for profit group that rehabilitates streams, rivers and creeks on the largest freshwater island in the world Manitoulin Island , Ontario , Canada . They partner with the entire community, including farmers, fisherman, and local lake and fish associations. Their rehabilitation projects enhance water quality and the fisheries resource on Manitoulin Island and Lake Huron which is fed by the streams. These streams were once very productive for salmon and trout spawn biology spawning , but have been destroyed by centuries of human land use practices. http www.manitoulinstreams.com Manitoulin Streams Improvement Association has rehabilitated 23 major sites on four waterways. These include the Manitou River Manitoulin Island Manitou River , Blue Jay Creek , Norton s Creek and Bass Lake Creek.
