  1. Gnits standards

The Gnits standards are a collection of standardization standard s and recommendations for programming, maintaining, and distributing software . They are published by a group of GNU project maintainers who call themselves Gnits , which is short for GNU nit pickers . As such, they represent advice, not Free Software Foundation or GNU policy, but parts of the Gnits standards have seen widespread adoption among free software programmers in general. The Gnits standards are extensions to, refinements of, and annotations for the GNU standards . However, they are in no way normative in GNU GNU maintainers are not required to follow them. Nevertheless, maintainers and programmers often find in Gnits standards good ideas on the way to follow GNU Standards themselves, as well as tentative, non official explanations about why some GNU standards were decided the way they are. There are very few discrepancies between Gnits and GNU standards, and they are always well noted as such. The standards address aspects of software architecture , program behaviour, human computer interaction , C computer language C programming, software documentation documentation , and software release s. As of 2008, the Gnits standards carry a notice that they are moribund and no longer actively maintained, and points readers to the manuals of Gnulib , Autoconf , and Automake , which are said to cover many of the same topics. update date November 2010 Primary sources date February 2008 Politics of Kosovo The Standards for Kosovo are a set of UN endorsed benchmarks for the democratic development of Kosovo . They cover eight key areas of development and include a particular focus on the protection of Kosovo non Albanian ethnic communities. The Standards address issues of related to functioning democratic institutions, rule of law, rights of communities, returns of displaced persons, the economy, dialogue with Belgrade, property rights and the Kosovo Protection Corps . In 2003, the international community articulated a policy of Standards before status, whereby it was decided that Kosovo s status would not be addressed until it had met these Standards of good governance . To meet these goals, Kosovo s Provisional Institutions of Self Government PISG created a series of working groups that met regularly to speed progress on the Standards. In 2005, a UN commissioned report by Norwegian diplomat Kai Eide assessed that further progress on the Standards would not be possible until Kosovo had clarity about its future status. about the British weights and measures authority media in house censors Standards and practices multiple issues refimprove May 2009 update January 2011 no footnotes date January 2011 comment unclear which Britannica article this came from Standards Department doesn t seem to exist on Wikisource The Standards Department was a department of the England English Board of Trade having the custody of the imperial standards of weights and measures. As far back as can be traced, the standard weights and measures, the primary instruments for determining the justness of all other weights and measures used in the United Kingdom, were kept at the exchequer, and the duties relating to these standards were imposed upon the chamberlains of the exchequer. The office of chamberlains was abolished in 1826, under the operation of 23 Geo. III, passed in 1783, but the custody of the standards and any duties connected therewith remained attached to an officer in the exchequer until that department was abolished in 1866. Meanwhile, in pursuance of recommendations of Standard Commissions of 1841 and 1854 and a British House of Commons House of Commons Committee of 1862, the Standards of Weights, Measures and Coinage Act 1866 was passed. This act created a special department of the Board of Trade, called the Standard Weights and Measures Department, and a head of that department styled the Warden of the Standards. His duty was to conduct comparisons, verifications and operations with reference to the standards in aid of scientific research and otherwise. 1911 Category Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Category Defunct departments of the United Kingdom Government Category Defunct public bodies of the United Kingdom Category Her Majesty s Most Honourable Privy Council Category Standards organizations Measurement stub UK gov stub ...   more details

  1. Grades and standards

In United States agricultural policy, grades and standards refers to the segregation, or classification, of agricultural commodities into groupings that share common characteristics. Grades provide a common trading language, or common reference, so that buyers and sellers can more easily determine the quality and therefore value of those commodities. Two USDA agencies, the Agricultural Marketing Service and Grain Inspection, Packers, and Stockyards Administration , serve as objective sources for this information. These agencies develop common grades and standards and conduct inspection and grading services for most food and farm products, and industry pays for most of the cost through user fees. Adoption and application of official U.S. Grain Standards is authorized by the U.S. Grain Standards Act USGSA 7 U.S.C. 71 et seq . 1. Trading Standards

Trading Standards is the name given to local authority departments in the UK formerly known as Weights and Measures Act Weights and Measures . Frequently, the Trading Standards enforcement functions of a local authority are performed by a small part of a larger department which enforces a wide range of other legislation environmental health, health and safety, licensing and so on. These departments investigate commercial organisations that trade outside the law or in unethical ways. They attempt to remedy breaches by advice or by formal enforcement action. History They were originally labelled as Weights and Measures Departments because their primary function was to maintain the integrity of commercial weighing and measuring by routine testing of equipment and goods. Other legislation was allocated to them as time went on. Function They now deal with more diverse issues under a wide variety of Acts, Orders and Codes of Practice, as set out by central government, the Food Standards Agency and the Office of Fair Trading . Such legislation includes the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 , the Consumer Protection Act 1987 , the Consumer Credit Act 1974 , the Food Safety Act 1990 and the Price Marking Order 2004. Recent priorities include prevention of sales of counterfeit goods, sales of tobacco and alcohol to under age buyers, and action to prevent exploitation of vulnerable consumers by scams and doorstep crime.
