John Manwaring Steward 1874 1937 was the fifth Anglican Bishop of Melanesia , serving from 1919 to 1928. From 1924 he was assisted by Frederick M. Molyneux as assistant bishop. He was the son of Charles Edward Steward, also an Anglican priest. J.M. Steward was elected Bishop of Melanesia after 17 years of missionary work as a priest in the Melanesian Mission, which he joined in 1902. In 1920 Steward moved the headquarters of the Melanesian Mission from Norfolk Island to Siota in the Solomon Islands . He was a right handed batsman and a leg break bowler, and occasional wicket keeper. He was born and died in Durban . Steward began playing Second XI cricket for Essex County Cricket Club Essex during the 1962 season, scoring a duck on his debut for the team, before making fourteen further appearances for the team before the end of the year. While he spent the following year still as a part of the Second XI, it was his consistent performances this season which brought him up to the first team squad, for whom he made his debut first class appearance in 1964, playing a single University Match prior to his first appearance in the County Championship a month later. Steward batted well from the Essex lower order, frequently scoring in double figures with tenacious partnership building from more experienced members of the team, and making nine County Championship appearances before the season came to a close. Steward s second and final season of first class cricket in England came the following year, but Essex underperformed, finishing third bottom in the 1965 County Championship table. Steward found himself out of the team and moving back to South Africa at the end of the season. Steward made a return to cricket during the 1967 68 season, playing three games for Natal B in the Currie Cup. Robert Steward Styward or Wells d. 1557 was an English Benedictine prior of Ely, Cambridgeshire Ely , and the first dean of Ely . Life He is said to have been born at Wells, Norfolk , and was the eldest son of Simeon Steward and his wife Joan, daughter and heiress of Edward Besteney of Soham , Cambridgeshire . Robert became a monk at Ely, when he adopted as his name the place of his birth. He graduated B.A. at Cambridge in 1516 and M.A. in 1520. About 1522 he was elected prior of Ely, and in that capacity took the chief part in the election of Thomas Goodrich as bishop in 1534. In the convocation of 1529 he maintained the validity of Henry VIII s marriage with Catherine of Aragon but he found reason to change his views, and became one of Henry s instruments in persuading monasteries to surrender to the king. In 1536 he was nominated a candidate for the suffragan bishopric of Colchester , but the king appointed William More . On 18 November 1539 he surrendered the monastery at Ely to the king, and received a generous pension and on 10 September 1541, when the see was refounded, he was appointed its first dean. A steward s assistant SA is an unlicensed, Entry level job entry level crewmember in the Steward s department of a merchant ship . This position can also be referred to as steward the usual term on British ships , galley utilityman , messman , supply or waiter . The role of the SA consists mainly of stocking, cleaning and assisting with the preparation and serving of meals. The SA often assists the steward by removing stocks such as food, linen, and utensils and making sure they arrive where they re needed. Closely involved with the storeroom operations, the SA will assist in taking inventory. The SA also is typically in charge of the ship s linens, not only sorting, counting, and stocking but also issuing them to the crew. The SA is a foodhandler, and perhaps most visible while assisting the chief cook with the serving of meals. Depending on the ship, this can include taking orders and delivering the food to the tables in the ship s messroom and officer s saloon. The SA also customarily sets out the night lunches for watchstanders preparing to start late night watches, as well as setting and clearing tables. A key defender originally from Kerang, Steward debuted for North Melbourne in 1962. Steward suffered a bad knee injury which kept him out the entire 1965 season after managing just one game in 1964. He returned in 1966 and two years later was at his peak, finishing equal 7th in the Brownlow Medal. The following season he represented Victoria in the 1969 Adelaide Carnival and earned All Australian selection. When John Dugdale footballer John Dugdale was injured during the 1970 season, Steward captained the club. It turned out to be his last year with them before he moved to play with West Perth. He was twice a premiership player at West Perth and wore the Western Australian jersey at interstate carnivals 5 times. During a 1968 match at Arden Street against Geelong football club, Peter Steward was struck by a Geelong supporter with a flogger a stick with streamers on the end of it , as he was about to kick the ball from the goal square.
