Mount points are used to allow multimedia servers the ability to control multiple content sources and or types on the same server instance. The mount point name is typically determined in the path location portion of a Uniform Resource Identifier URI . Channel content and attributes can be stored with mount point definitions and kept separate of global and other mount point settings and limits. This term in streaming media was popularized by the Icecast server and is used in many software products that support it and others like it. Refimprove date March 2008 Computer application streaming is a form of on demand software distribution. The basic concept of application streaming has its foundation in the way modern computer programming languages and operating systems produce and run application code. Only specific parts of a computer program need to be available at any instance for the end user to perform a particular function. This means that a program need not be fully installed on a client computer, but parts of it can be delivered over the network as and when they are required. Application streaming is usually combined with application virtualization , so that applications are not installed in the traditional sense. In computer science , streaming algorithms are algorithms for processing data streams in which the input is presented as a sequence of items and can be examined in only a few passes typically just one . These algorithms have limited memory available to them much less than the input size and also limited processing time per item. Cleanup date January 2010 Protected Streaming Dubious The name Protected Streaming date May 2009 is a digital rights management DRM technology by Adobe Systems Adobe . The aim of the technology is to protect digital content video or audio from unauthorized use. Protected Streaming consists of many different techniques basically there are two main components encryption and SWF verification. This technique is used by the Hulu desktop player and the RTE Player . Fifa.com also uses this technique to serve the videos on the official site. Some videos on YouTube also use RTMPE, including those uploaded there by BBC Worldwide. Encryption Streamed content is encrypted by the Flash Media Server on the fly , so that there is no need to encrypt the source file a significant difference from Microsoft s DRM . For transmission streaming , a special protocol is required either RTMPE or RTMPS . RTMPS uses Transport Layer Security SSL encryption. In contrast, RTMPE is designed to be simpler than RTMPS, by removing the need to acquire a SSL Certificate. RTMPE makes use of well known industry standard cryptographic primitives, consisting of Diffie Hellman key exchange and HMACSHA256, generating a pair of RC4 keys, one of which is then used to encrypt the media data sent by the server the audio or video stream , whilst the other key is used to encrypt any data sent to the server. In astronomy , free streaming is a term used to describe a subatomic particle particle , most often a photon , which propagates through a medium without scattering . Use in defining surfaces Defining an exact surface for an object such as the Sun is made difficult by the wiktionary diffuse diffuse nature of matter which constitutes the Sun at distances far from the stellar core. An often used definition for the surface of a star is based on the path that photons take. Inside a star, photons travel by random walk , constantly interacting with matter, and the surface of the star is defined as the point at which photons encounter little resistance from the matter in the stellar atmosphere , or in other words, when photons stream freely. ref Shu 1982 , p. 89. ref The light which constitutes the cosmic microwave background comes from the surface of last scattering. Windows Media , QuickTime video, RealAudio and RealVideo streams are just a few examples of these, and each have their benefits and shortcomings. One of the shortfalls of most streaming formats often comes from the difficulty in finding streams, or at least some form of directory service and in some cases, none are readily available to the public at all. With Nullsoft s SHOUTcast service, a media streaming and directory system, the NSV format has become popular, along with SHOUTcast s listings of Streaming Audio, which reach well into the thousands. Streaming Transformations for XML STX is an XML transformation language intended as a high speed, low memory consumption alternative to XSLT version 1.0 and 2.0. Current work on XSLT 3.0 includes Streaming capabilities. Overview STX is an XML standard for efficient processing of stream based XML. As we will discover, XSLT is not well suited to stream based processing, and STX fills this niche. Conventional XML processing involves loading the entire XML document into memory for use. This is as opposed to Simple API for XML SAX which Streaming XML streams XML events such as open element close element text node and so on so that other software that can begin interpreting these immediately before the end of the file is reached. Unfortunately some software can t effectively use XML fragments this way and must build up the whole document to begin processing. So is the case with XSLT. Because XSLT s XPath can select any node throughout the document it must have the entire document available in memory. Understandably, this could be perceived as a bottleneck. STX only allows queries immediately surrounding the current node so it can quickly start transforming and outputting SAX event nodes as they arrive. As it can discard nodes immediately after processing the memory use is significantly lower than that of XSLT. Having a limited query scope is a defining characteristic of STX. This architectural decision intentionally marginalises STX as a niche language. Indeed, it would be wrong to say that STX is a general purpose transformation language however, if your transformation needs can be met by STX then it s an efficient and smart choice. Specifications STX s query language is called STXPath and is based on XPath 2.0 . Implementations of STX are available in Java programming language ... to Streaming Transformations for XML Category XML based standards uk XML de Streaming Transformations for XML ... more details
The Internet Streaming Media Alliance ISMA was Founded in December 2000, by Apple Computer , Cisco Systems , Kasenna , Philips , and Sun Microsystems . ref cite news url http articles.cnn.com 2000 12 14 tech ISMA.formed.idg 1 isma web site open standards media services? s PM TECH title Internet Streaming Media Alliance formed publisher CNN date 2000 12 14 accessdate 2011 12 23 ref It is a non profit corporation whose mission is to accelerate the market adoption of open standards for streaming and progressive download of rich media over all types of Internet Protocol s IP . The ISMA is a diverse alliance with representatives from all points of the streaming work flow. While standards already exist for audio and video codecs e.g. MPEG and for real time streaming transport over IP networks e.g. Real time Transport Protocol RTP putting these together requires selecting profiles, describing payload formats, and resolving various options. ISMA specifications typically adopt existing specifications in order to form a complete solution. However, when specifications don t exist, the ISMA will create them. The ISMA also performs interoperability testing, allowing its members to ensure that their products conform to ISMA standards and interoperate. Specifications The ISMA has released several specifications for the transport of rich media over IP ISMA 1.0 details how to stream MPEG 4 Part 2 video Simple Profile and Advanced Simple Profile over IP networks. ISMA 2.0 details how to stream H.264 MPEG 4 AVC video and HE AAC audio over IP networks. ISMACryp specifies an end to end encryption system for ISMA 1.0 and 2.0 streams. ISMA Closed Captioning specifies how to carry closed caption line 21 data as a third stream over IP network.
