Refimprove date October 2008 Baseball is a sport with a long history of superstition . From the very famous Curse of the Bambino to some players refusal to wash their clothes or bodies after a win, superstition is present in all parts of baseball. Many baseball players&mdash batting baseball batters , pitcher s, and fielders alike&mdash perform elaborate, repetitive routines prior to pitches and at bat s due to superstition. The desire to keep a number they have been successful with is strong in baseball. In fact anything that happens prior to something good or bad in baseball can give birth to a new superstition. Some players rely on a level of meta superstition by believing in superstitions they can focus their mind to perform better. Many players and fans also believe that superstitions propagate their own fulfillment by influencing players and fans. Some of the more common superstition include purposely stepping on or avoiding stepping on the foul line when taking the field, and not talking about a no hitter or perfect game while it is in progress, a superstition that also holds for fans and announcers. Others include routines such as eating only chicken before a game like Wade Boggs , tapping the bat on the plate before an at bat, and drawing in the dirt in the batter s box before an at bat. It was the last coaster Custom Coasters International CCI finished. The ride is unusual as it has an elevator to raise the cars to the top of the track as opposed to the more traditional lift hill. CCI constructed new cage enclosed cars due to the proximity between riders and the themed mountain sections of the ride. Eight people may ride in a two car train simultaneously. Two face forward and two backward, opposite each other in each car. The ride enters an enclosed mountain area several times throughout the ride. The imitation mountain was originally used for a previous dark ride. This dark ride went through the mountain and lights would illuminate scenes of various animals in the mountain. The Lost Coaster is a moderate ride and does not have big drops. Part of the thrill is the alarming shake generated by the unusual track design. Ride backwards for the ultimate shake. Three on a match also known as third on a match is a supposed superstition among soldiers during the Crimean War to World War I . The superstition goes that if three soldiers lit their cigarettes from the same match , one of the three would be killed or that the man who was third on the match would be shot. Since then it has been considered bad luck for three people to share a light from the same match. The belief was that when the first soldier lit his cigarette, the enemy would see the light when the second soldier lit his cigarette from the same match, the enemy would take aim and note if the soldier was friendly or foe when the third soldier lit his cigarette from the same match, the enemy would fire. Another explanation for this was that the first to light the match gave an enemy marksman the range to the target, the second gave the windage on the target, and the third one was shot using this information.
