  1. Supine row

The supine row alternatively called the inverted row by some is an exercise in weight training . This exercise primarily works the muscles of the upper back, these muscles are the Trapezius and Latissimus dorsi , the supine row also works the Biceps as a secondary muscle group. The supine row is normally carried out in three to five sets but repetitions depend on the type of training a lifter is using to make their required gains. Form To execute the exercise, the lifter lays flat on the ground under a fixed bar, usually a smith machine , that is at chest height. Citation needed date April 2009 The lifter will hold the bar with an overhand grip and arms straight, feet close together and their body straight. The movement of this exercise is for the lifter to pull their body towards the bar so it is no more than two centimeters away before slowly returning to the starting position. Good form means that the body is kept straight throughout the movement. The chin should remain tucked during the motion, keeping the cervical portion of the spine lined up to the rest of the lifter s body. The bar can be moved higher or lower to make the movement easier or more difficult for the lifter. The lower the bar is, the more difficult the movement becomes. 1. Bowloader

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Image Doppelvierer mit Steuermann.jpg thumb right A coxed quad scull , with a bow cox A bowloader is a crew shell a type of boat used in rowing sport rowing in which the coxswain lies semi supine position supine in the bow, as opposed to the normal seated position at the stern . Bowloaders are often seen as coxed four s and also coxed pair s. Although a small number of bowloader eight rowing eights exist, the larger boat s momentum means that a coxswain lying in the bows could be injured in a collision if the bow collapses. A bowloader is slightly faster than a stern coxed boat, since the mass of the coxswain in the bow reduces porpoising , and the semi supine position puts the coxswain s center of mass below the waterline, reducing roll. Both of these factors help to reduce drag. The cox also has better forward vision in a bowloader in the conventional stern position the cox cannot see directly ahead. Novice coxswains often have difficulty with bowloaders, however, since the rowers and their oars cannot easily be seen. Experienced coxswains learn how to feel the movements of the rowers in the boat, as well as visualising the position of the shell itself to safely and effectively manoevre it. Bowloaders require an amplifier and loudspeakers to be used so that the cox can communicate with the crew, and unlike in the conventional coxing position there is no opportunity for personal communication between cox and stroke on race tactics. It is used to identify unilateral fixed flexion deformity of the hip. The test consists of 3 steps Step 1 the patient lies supine on the examination table. The clinician passes the palm of his hand beneath the patients spine to identify lumbar lordosis. Step 2 The normal hip is flexed till the thigh just touches the abdomen to obliterate the lumbar lordosis. 1. Psoas sign

The psoas sign is a medical sign that indicates irritation to the iliopsoas group of hip flexors in the human abdomen abdomen , and consequently indicates that the inflamed appendix is retrocaecal in orientation as the iliopsoas muscle is retroperitoneal . It is elicited by performing the psoas test by passively extending the thigh of a patient lying on his side with knees extended, or asking the patient to actively flex his thigh at the hip. ref cite book last Bickley first Lynn S. title Bates Guide to Physical Exam and History Taking edition 9th publisher Lippincott, Williams, and Wilkins pages 390 ref If abdominal pain results, it is a positive psoas sign . The pain results because the psoas borders the peritoneal cavity , so stretching by hyperextension at the hip or contraction by flexion of the hip of the muscles causes friction against nearby inflamed tissues. In particular, the right iliopsoas muscle lies under the Vermiform appendix appendix when the patient is supine position supine , so a positive psoas sign on the right may suggest appendicitis .
