Southampton . TOC Early career Born in Southampton , John was educated at St. Mary s College, Southampton and, at 13, he became their first pupil to play for the Southampton Schools XI. By playing his part in the side that reached the final of the 1954 English Schools trophy, only to lose out to Liverpool F.C. Liverpool , he came to the notice of Saints. In August 1955 he joined CPC Sports who doubled as a Saints nursery side. In due course John became part of the successful 1956 57 Southampton Youth side which did so well in the FA Youth Cup . During the early years, it was called the Sydenham and Frontenac County Grammar School and managed by a County Board of Trustees. In 1927 the school hired its first bus from a private owner to service the Harrowsmith, Ontario Harrowsmith area. By 1947, it was clear the school building needed an expansion to accommodate its growing population, and by 1952 additions cost an estimated 17,000. Sydenham High School continues to grow as a well established rural institution that today services almost 1000 students.
