KOM is a type of Bulletin board system BBS , with a text based as opposed to a menu computing menu based input system. The first was QZ KOM , but soon others imitated the user interface. The QZKOM system was first opened in 1978, which probably makes it the first Swedish developed forum service in Sweden. It was forbidden by the Swedish government late the same year, reopened with permission in 1979. Before opening of QZKOM, QZ ran the American system Forum Planet which provided similar services but only for very small user groups. It is one of the only BBS s still in operation and actively used on a daily basis by its community, with over 5000 comments in a typical month. Monochrome runs on custom software, making the platform and user experience distinct from other bulletin board systems. Monochrome BBS big M is a specific instance of mono another instance of mono was used for a few years as the official user interface for students in the Information Science department, but usage declined around 1996. Once the Monochrome board was up and running, fellow students were given accounts and word began to spread. The first non City users were admitted in 1991 1992. Eventually Mono s userbase became international, although the majority of those joining were UK university students. 1. S-tag

Orphan date April 2012 S tag is the name of an oligopeptide derived from pancreatic ribonuclease A RNase A . If RNase A is digested with subtilisin , a single peptide bond is cleaved, but the resulting two products remain weakly bound to each other and the protein, called ribonuclease S, remains active although each of the two products alone shows no enzymatic activity. The N terminus of the original RNase A, also called S peptide, consists of 20 amino acid residues, of which only the first 15 are required for ribonuclease activity. This 15 amino acid s long peptide is called S15 or S tag . The amino acid sequence of the S tag is Lys Glu Thr Ala Ala Ala Lys Phe Glu Arg Gln His Met Asp Ser. It is believed that the peptide with its abundance of charged and polar residues could improve solubility of proteins it is attached to. Moreover, the peptide alone is thought not to fold into a distinct structure. On DNA level the S tag can be attached to the N or C terminus of any protein . After gene expression , such a tagged protein can be detected by commercially available antibodies . References R.T. Raines et al., The S Tag Fusion System for Protein Purification. Notability date September 2011 Unreferenced date September 2011 The DTJ BBS Does The Job Bulletin Board System was a program for the Commodore 64 written by Andrew Bernhardt. The first version was released in 1985, and sold for 35. There were forty DTJ systems before the software changed to freeware in 1989. the software spread more rapidly as freeware but I have no statistics as there was no obligation to register the program DTJ BBS was loosely based on the Citadel software Citadel family of general discussion systems. Its primary function was a public message board, although it did support other features such as email and file transfers. Like Citadel, it used the metaphor of rooms to contain messages, and the system responded to many of the same menu commands. DTJ was written for speed and ease of use. No Commodore specific features such as graphics were supported. This was intended to make the system appealing to users all computer types. The BBS was successful in this regard. DTJ systems tended to have a more diverse user base. Many users were surprised to find out that the software was not running on an IBM PC but on a toy computer. DTJ BBS had a freeform text editor that did not use line numbers. The user was encouraged not to press RETURN or ENTER except at the end of paragraphs so that the message could word wrap to the reader s video width. The content of the text editor was non volatile, meaning the user could exit the editor at any time and come back later to finish ... delete itself automatically.
