Periodic inventory is a system of inventory in which updates are made on a periodic basis. This differs from perpetual inventory systems, where updates are made as seen fit. In a periodic inventory system no effort is made to keep up to date records of either the inventory or the cost of goods sold. Instead, these amounts are determined only periodically usually at the end of each year. This physical count determines the amount of inventory appearing in the balance sheet. The cost of goods sold for the entire year then is determined by a short computation. References Robert F. Meigs, Jan R. Williams, Susan F. Haka & Mark S. Bettner. about the mathematical concept groups in the chemical periodic table Group periodic table In group theory , a periodic group or a torsion group is a group mathematics group in which each element mathematics element has finite set finite order group theory order . All finite groups are periodic. The concept of a periodic group should not be confused with that of a cyclic group , although all finite cyclic groups are periodic. The exponent of a periodic group G is the least common multiple , if it exists, of the orders of the elements of G . Any finite group has an exponent it is a divisor of G . Burnside s problem is a classical question, which deals with the relationship between periodic groups and finite group s, if we assume only that G is a finitely generated group . The question is whether specifying an exponent forces finiteness to which the answer is no , in general . Examples of infinite periodic groups include the additive group of the ring of polynomials over a finite field, and the quotient group of the rationals by the integers, as well as their direct summands, the Pr fer group s. Another example is the union of all dihedral group s. None of these examples has a finite generating set, and any periodic linear group with a finite generating set is finite. Explicit examples of finitely generated infinite periodic groups were constructed by Golod, based on Golod Shafarevich theorem joint work with Shafarevich , and by Aleshin and Grigorchuk using automata theory automata . Periodic poling is a formation of layers with alternate orientation in a birefringent material. The domains are regularly spaced, with period in a multiple of the desired wavelength of operation. The structure is desired to achieve quasi phase matching QPM in the material. Periodically poled crystal s are frequently used as nonlinear optical materials. They are up to 20 times more efficient at second harmonic generation than crystals of the same material without Periodic table crystal structure periodic structure. The material for the crystals is usually a wide band gap inorganic crystal, or in some cases a suitable Organic chemistry organic polymer . Some popular materials in current use are potassium titanyl phosphate KTP , lithium niobate , and lithium tantalate . The periodic structure is created in the crystal using a range of techniques. Pulsed electric field, electron bombardment, thermal pulsing, or other methods can be used to reposition the atom s in the crystal structure lattice , creating oriented domains.
