I know it s tango. So says Virtanen, the hero of Tango on intohimoni , or Tango is my Passion , the definitive Finnish tango novel. Virtanen is a Finnish tangotango obsessive, with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the subject, which he insists on sharing with everybody he meets. He goes dancing every day in the various dance halls of Helsinki and sometimes Turku , but he only dances the tangos. But Virtanen also has principles. At the age of 15 he had read that Plato recommends 24 as the ideal age for sexual intercourse for women, and 35 for men. If Virtanen can hold on to his virginity until the age of 36, he will have beaten the old fraud. But this is difficult for someone with such a passion for tango My penis rises and interferes with the dance. Tangos were mounted with 30 and 50 caliber machine guns, Mk 19 rapid fire grenade launchers, and 20 millimeter cannons. They were used to transport the Riverine Infantry throughout the delta. In the early part of the war these were mainly troops of the 9th Infantry Division. Later in the war, Vietnamese Army and Marine troops were placed aboard the Tango boats. Tangos with added helo decks, ATC H , also provided a place for helicopters to land for swift evacuation of wounded soldiers. Tango boats can be distinguished by their distinctive bow ramp. Unreferenced date December 2009 A tanda is a turn of dancing in a milonga place milonga , and by association, a set of pieces of music, usually between three or five, that is played for one turn. The most common style is to play four pieces in the tango tandas, three in the milonga tandas, and three or four in the vals tandas. Most commonly the music is tango music tango , milonga or vals music vals . Between tandas is played a cortina tango cortina Spanish for curtains , a musical pause to allow dancers to leave the floor and to serve as a short break between tandas. Tandas are normally arranged by feel of the music. A typical order of tandas is T T V T T M T for a tanda of tangos, V for a tanda of vals cruzado, M for a tanda of milongas . In milongas not lasting long, usually the T T V T M is used. It is common to choose the music for a tanda from a given orchestra and era, often with the same vocalist or, as an alternative, purely instrumental pieces . Mixing different vocalists, eras or even orchestras is rare. This approach is chosen for the comfort of the dancers, with two main reasons ref Sed , Melina. http www.tangodesalon.de documents HeroesoftheSilverDisc.pdf Heroes of the Silver Disc Guidelines for successful DJing . Tangodanza, 2006 revised 2008 online ref When a new tanda starts the dancers can listen to the beginning of the first piece to learn whether they like the music or not, and based on this decide to ask someone to dance this tanda, or take a break. The dancers can adjust to a type of music in the beginning tanda, without having to readjust for each song. Sometimes in a minority of milongas in Argentina also non tango tandas are played, like Rock n roll , Cumbia or Chacarera , but not more than one tanda.
