    Telecles lang el , of Phocis or Phocaea , ref Diogenes La rtius, iv. 60 Phocis in older texts, but emended to Phocaea in the Loeb Classical Library edition. ref was the pupil and successor of Lacydes of Cyrene Lacydes , and was joint leader scholarch of the Platonic Academy Academy at Athens together with Evander philosopher Evander . In the final ten years of Lacydes life c. 215 c. 205 , Evander and Telecles had helped run the Academy due to Lacydes being seriously ill. They continued running the Academy after the death of Lacydes, without formally being elected scholarchs. On Telecles death in 167 6 BC, Evander remained scholarch for a few more years.   1. Rhoecus

    Rhoecus or Rh cus , Rhoikos was a Samos Island Samian sculptor of the 6th century BCE. He and his son Theodorus of Samos Theodorus were especially noted for their work in bronze . Herodotus says that Rhoecus built the temple of Hera at Samos, which was destroyed by fire c. 530 BCE. In the temple of Artemis at Ephesus was a marble figure of night by Rhoecus. His name has been found on a fragment of a vase which he dedicated to Aphrodite at Naucratis . His sons Theodorus and Telecles made a statue of the Pythian Apollo for the Samians.   1. Theodorus of Samos

    Refimprove date December 2009 Theodorus of Samos Lang el was a 6th century BC Ancient Greece ancient Greek sculpture sculptor and architect from the Greek island of Samos Island Samos . Along with Rhoecus , he was often credited with the invention of ore smelting and, according to Pausanias geographer Pausanias , the craft of casting . He is also credited with inventing a water level, a carpenter s square, and, according to Pliny the Elder Pliny , a lock and key and the turning Lathe tool lathe . According to Vitruvius vii, introduction , Theodorus is the architect of the Doric Order temple Heraion of Samos temple. In some texts he is described, above all, as a great artist and in some statues he is depicted as a great inventor. The ancient historian Herodotus , also from Samos , twice refers to Theodorus as the son of Telecles, a Samian artist. Herodotus credits Theodorus along with Rhoecus with improving the process of mixing copper and tin to form bronze, as well as being the first to use it in casting.     A scholarch lang grc , scholarch s is the head of a school. The term was especially used for the heads of schools of philosophy in ancient Athens , such as the Platonic Academy , whose first scholarch was Plato himself. He held the position for forty years, appointing his nephew Speussipus as his successor later scholarchs were elected by members of the Academy.
