  1. GenesisIV

GenesisIV is a rendering computer graphics photorealistic landscape renderer program made by Geomantics Ltd. of Balquhidder , Scotland . GenesisIV is similar to Terragen in that it uses an atmosphere lighting model, but differs in that this trades off some sophistication so that it can be implemented in hardware using OpenGL shader s. GenesisIV also places a stronger emphasis on landscape visualization for Geographic information system GIS and Educational use than for pure Computer Graphics . 1. Hoon (fiction)

The Hoon are a fictional extraterrestrial race from David Brin s Uplift Universe . Hoon are bipedal omnivores with pale scaly skin and woolly white leg fur. Their spines are massive, hollow structures that form part of their circulatory system. The Hoon s inflatable throat sacs, originally used for mating display, are now used for umbling . Like many of the races that populate Jijo planet Jijo , their counterparts that are still a part of the Galactic culture are quite different from them. Galactic culture Those Hoon in Galactic culture are respected and feared bureaucrats in the service of many Institutions, and mortal enemies of the rather pro natalist and dynamic Urs. Hoon have a reputation for being sober, impecably proper, and insufferably officious. Hoon, in their capacity as incorruptible bureaucrats working for the Institute of Migration, authorized the depopulation of the Human colony world of NuDawn in the first decade of Terra s encounter with Galactic civilization. They refused to accept ignorance of Tradition as a mitigating factor, and refused to exercise any discretionary power to grant pleas for mercy this, despite the fact that these imperious bureaucrats readily admitted that the laws they had to apply in this particular case were unjust. The massacre of the colonists was carried out with astounding efficiency and a minimum of terror or pain. Such Hoon forces as participated in the Extermination of Illegal Settler Infestations displayed neither pleasure nor remorse. They were simply professionally efficient. EarthClan Terragen Hoon relations can be described as at best cordial and correct and Terragen policy is to diplomatically back the Urs in any confrontation with Hoon. Jijo settlers They are known as seafarers and as musicians who are able to make musical tones with their throat sacs, umbling . History and origins Found by the Guthatsa, Hoons were raised to sentiency, but little else is known about their history except that they have at least u ...   more details

  1. Hebes Chasma

MarsGeo Valley name Hebes Chasma latitude 1.1 N or S S longitude 76.2 E or W W length 319 km width 130 km depth 6 km Hebes Chasma is an isolated chasma just north of the Valles Marineris canyon system of Mars . It is centered at 1 degree southern latitude and 76 degrees western longitude, just between the Martian equator and the Valles Marineris system, just east of the Tharsis region. Geography Hebes Chasma is a completely closed depression in the surface of Mars, with no outflows to the nearby Echus Chasma to the west, Perrotin Crater to the southwest, or Valles Marineris to the south. Its maximum extents are approximately 320 km east to west, 130 km north to south, and 5 to 6 km in depth. At the center of the depression is a large Hebes Mensa mesa rising some 5 km off the valley floor, nearly as high as the surrounding terrain. This central plateau makes Hebes Chasma a unique valley in Martian geography. Origin of mesa The walls of Hebes Chasma weather differently than the slopes on the mesa on its floor. Also, studies of the thermal inertia suggest that the mesa and the walls of the canyon are made of different substances. Thermal inertia is how long the surface holds heat. For example, rocky areas will stay warmer than dust at night. One popular idea that explains the difference between the depression s walls and the mesa slopes is that the mesa was formed from material that accumulated in a lake. ref http themis.asu.edu features hebes ref gallery Image Hebes Chasma.JPG Hebes Chasma, as seen by THEMIS. 1. Procedural modeling

Procedural modeling is an umbrella term for a number of techniques in computer graphics to create 3D models and texture mapping textures from sets of rules. L System s, fractal s, and Generative Modelling Language generative modeling are procedural modeling techniques since they apply algorithm s for producing scenes. The set of rules may either be embedded into the algorithm, configurable by parameters, or the set of rules is separate from the evaluation engine. The output is called procedural content, which can be used in computer games, films, be uploaded to the internet, or the user may edit the content manually. Procedural models often exhibit database amplification, meaning that large scenes can be generated from a much smaller amount of rules. If the employed algorithm produces the same output every time, the output need not be stored. Often, it suffices to start the algorithm with the same random seed to achieve this. Although all modeling techniques on a computer require algorithms to manage and store data at some point, procedural modeling focuses on creating a model from a rule set, rather than editing the model via user input. Procedural modeling is often applied when it would be too cumbersome to create a 3D model using generic 3D modeler s, or when more specialized tools are required. This is often the case for plants, architecture or landscapes. It provides distributed Rendering computer graphics render batch queue queueing on a per frame basis and management of these tasks. It is primarily used for animations used as visual effects in films and advertising. Overview The application is composed of three main tools master , slave and drqman . A task in DrQueue is composed of multiple batch job jobs all of which require a script which is distributed to the slave nodes of the cluster by the master . The master acts as a central server, where all tasks are stored. The slave software is run on each node in the cluster and it reports its status back to the master periodically. drqman is the GUI used to control jobs. Typical tasks are to reprioritize jobs, stop them, restart specific frames, change frames to be rendered and so on. It has direct control of Maya software Maya , Mental Ray , Blender software Blender , Softimage XSI XSI , Lightwave , Houdini software Mantra in Houdini , Turtle Illuminate Labs , BMRT , Shake software Shake , After Effects , Aqsis , Nuke software Nuke , Terragen , 3Delight , and Pixie renderer Pixie There is also a small Python programming language python web service called DrKeewee that allows you to check the status of the queue using a web browser . 1. Glaver

Notability date January 2010 The Glaver are a fictional extraterrestrial race from David Brin s Uplift Universe . The Glavers are a small race, reptilian in appearance with opalescent skin, their bulbous eyes are independent of each other, and swivel in a way disconcerting to most binocular races. They are primarily quadrupedal with limited bipedal capacity. The Glavers primary organ of manipulation is their prehensile tail, using its forked end to tackle more subtle tasks. However, the tail is weak in musculature, and so a use remains for the strong forelegs function as rudimentary hands for gripping and manipulation. These are clumsy and unsuited for any task more complicated than grasping a stick or handle and are used to tackle any heavy task the Glaver requires done. Glavers are capable of eating and digesting both plant matter and small insects, but are incapable of digesting meat. As this would indicate, Glavers have no canine teeth. They also lack incisors, relying entirely on crushing food matter between their large molars. There can be considered to be two groups of Glavers at present, those who are still live on as a spacefaring culture and those who walk the path of redemption. Glavers that are still a Spacefaring Culture They have been amenable to technological and academic exchange, and have been supportive of growing Terragen involvement in the fields of linguistics and inter order communication, negotiation and trade. They are a moderate people. Glavers are militarily neutral in the Alliance for Progress troubles with militant Galactic conservatives. Their real talent of the Glaver race, however, lies in an aptitude for communicating with hydrogen breathing entities, who are an enigma to most oxy species of the Five Galaxies. For many years, Glavers earned their collective living and status as diplomats, negotiating between oxygen breathing and hydrogen breathing lifeforms which is most likely part of the cause for their decline.
