Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Yusuf ibn Hud al Yazam died 1238 , commonly known as Ibn Hud , was a taifa emir of Andalusia from 1228 to 1237. He claimed to be a descendent of the Banu Hud family from Zaragoza . Ibn Hud was governor of Murcia for the Almohad rulers. When after the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212 it became more and more evident, that the Almohads were no longer able to protect the country, and discontent rose among the people, Ibn Hud became the leader of the rebellion. By 1228 he had become the ruler of practically all al Andalus . Yet he was not for long able to resist the forces of the Christian Iberian Kingdoms. In 1231 his troops were defeated by the Kingdom of Castile in the Battle of Jerez , and by the Kingdom of Le n near M rida . In 1233 Ibn Hud had to sign a truce with Castile. In 1232 Mohammed I ibn Nasr elevated himself sultan of the region of Ja n, Spain Ja n and soon became Ibn Hud s most powerful opponent. Though Ibn Hud was at first able to defeat Ibn Nasr in 1234, he was not able to protect C rdoba, Spain C rdoba from being taken over by Ferdinand III of Castile in 1236, and had to sign another truce with both Ferdinand III and Ibn Nasr. unsourced date December 2007 Ibn Hamdis c. 1056 c. 1133 was a Siculo Arabic Sicilian Arab poet. He was born in Noto , near Syracuse, Sicily Syracuse . When he was 31, his town was captured by the Italo Normans Normans and he was forced to move to Andalusia , then still under Muslim control, at Sevilla , where he made friends with prince Muhammad Ibn Abbad Al Mutamid Al Mutamid , who was also a poet. After the death of the latter in an Almoravid prison of Aghmat 1095 , Hamdis moved to central Maghreb Algeria under the protection of prince Mansur ibn Nasir al Mansur . When the latter died, he then moved to Madhiyya in Tunisia , as a guest of the Zirid rulers. Hamdis thence continued to move in most of the Mediterranean Islamic countries until his death at Majorca in 1133. His works include c. 6,000 verses, many of them devoted to his lost Sicily . It is thought that he invented the thuluth script, the first cursive style of Arabic, though none of his original work remains. Ibn Muqlah was also a government official. By age 22 he was a scribe as well as holding two other important jobs. He was the vizier three times under the Abbasid caliph in Baghdad. After years of fighting for causes he believed in, he was publicly disgraced and imprisoned in 936. After four years of maltreatment, he died. Along with Ibn al Bawwab and Yaqut al Musta simi , he is considered the founder of the modern style. Ibn Marw n Abd al Rahm n Ibn Marw n ibn Y nus , also known as Ibn al Djill qui or Son of a Gallaecia Galician died ca. 889 , was a Muladi Sufism Sufi whose family had come from Portugal, Norte northern Portugal and settled near M rida, Spain M rida . In 868, leading a host of Muladis and Mozarab s, he rebelled against Caliph of C rdoba Emir Muhammad I of C rdoba and after a heroic resistance he got honourable surrendering terms from the Emir and was given Badajoz whom he started to fortify. Knowing of an incoming attack by the Emirate forces, he fled northwards settling in the castle of Karkar now Carquere, near Lamego , Portugal . Afterwards, at Ibn Marw n s request, king Alfonso III of Le n sent him auxiliary troops and the combined army defeated the Emirate forces. Returning to Badajoz, now a well fortified city, he established his rule throughout the whole of the Al Garb Al Andalus .
