Background Galeried Art du Petit Champlain bought the rights to make a limited number of paper copies of Mr. Claude Th berge Th berge s paintings in order to create posters from them. Through a chemical process the gallery was able to lift the ink off the paper and put it onto a canvas. This transferring destroyed the paper version in the process. The gallery then sold the paintings for a substantial premium over the cost of the paper posters. Th berge had a bailiff seize the paintings as violations of his copyright and his moral rights. Among other things, he personally championed and facilitated the increased use of Very Long Range aircraft, such as the B 24 Liberator B24 Consolidated Liberator. These aircraft allowed continual air cover over the Atlantic and closed the notorious Mid Atlantic air gap, where Axis U Boats could freely operate against Allied convoys. After the war he wrote an eight volume internal history for the Royal Navy, entitled The R.A.F. in the Maritime War , a copy of which resides at The National Archives in Kew , London.
