Le Guin . Geography Being the larger body of a double planet system with Anarres , Urras is covered by oceans and continents. ref name Dispossessed Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed , p.2f ref The oceans are simply named Tiuve Sea, Insel Sea, North Sea and Great South Sea. Besides a couple of smaller islands, Urras landmass is split in two big continents. On one of the two continents, the nation states of A Io fictional state A Io and Thu fictional state Thu are located, both portrayed as developed industrial societies. A Io is evidently a capitalist Parliamentary system parliametary republic , whereas Thu is described as a totalitarian socialist state both thinly veiled allegories of the United States of America and the Soviet Union . On the second large continent, unstable Benbili fictional state Benbili is found whose society is economically underdeveloped. In The Dispossessed , A Io and Thu fight a proxy war in Benbili, both claiming to resurrect order and stability. History Urras is the original world of the Cetians. An anarchist group called Odonians, separating from its Propertarianism propertarian society, have settled Anarres , but still have an influence on the various nations of Urras, as is told in The Dispossessed . Urras is also seen in The Day Before the Revolution in the short story collection The Wind s Twelve Quarters . But this is primarily the story of Laia Odo, the founder of the Odonian movement. Geography Being the smaller body of a double planet system with Urras fictional planet Urras , Anarres is largely covered by land while having two large seas as the biggest bodies of water. ref name Dispossessed Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed , p.2f ref While its society is egalitarian, there still exists a center, namely Abbenay, the capital city , where a spaceport and several central facilities are located. History It was settled by Odonian separatists coming from Urras fictional planet Urras . Ever since, contact to Urras has been strongly regulated by a treaty, the only point of tangency being Urrasti freighters landing and starting on the planet s only spaceport in Abbenay. Odonianism was developed by anarchist philosopher Laia Odo, who lived in the propertarian nation state of A Io on the planet of Urras. Part of her tale is told in the short story The Day Before the Revolution , part of the collection The Wind s Twelve Quarters . The story of Anarres and its settlement by Odonians is told in The Dispossessed . Odonians speak the Pravic languague, which fits their outlook and social structure and is described in considerable detail. Cetians appear or are mentioned in various other tales, mostly without specifying which world they come from. But in The Shobies Story , the Cetian Gveter is an Anarresti. Churten theory was developed on his world, which evidently keeps its Odonian views on cooperation and objects to Propertarianism propertarian habits . Iotic is spoken in A Io, a superpower of the planet Urras, one of two settings of the story the other one being the sister planet Anarres, where Pravic is spoken . In contrast to Pravic, Iotic is a natural language , and as such probably exhibits many irregularities and complications, but the reader is not informed of them in the book. Judging by what we have and unless the Transcription linguistics transcription is misleading , Iotic words tend to be relatively simple in phonetics phonetic structure, with few consonant s, only a few consonant clusters, and many vowel s often strung together. The book contains many names that show this personal names like To, Atro, Saio Pae, Laia Asieo Odo, Vea, Doem, Oiie, Dearri, Tuio Maedda, and place names like A Io, Ieu Eun, Nio Esseia, Drio. Names with final consonants, like Efor and Rodarred, seem rare. Ioti society is social inequality highly stratified , and accordingly Iotic is reported to have two registers or sociolect s one for the upper class , also used in some media the telefax is mentioned , and one low register for the working class , the so called Nioti. This Low Iotic is characterized according to the narrator by a reduction of verb s to the present tense . In English law , the Assize of novel disseisin recent dispossession was an action to recover lands of which the plaintiff had been disseised, or dispossessed. The action became extremely popular due to its expediency. Rather than dealing with the issue of lawful possession, it simply asked whether a dispossession had taken place, in which case the property was restored to the plaintiff, and the question of true ownership was dealt with later. It was one of the so called petty assizes established by the Assize of Clarendon by Henry II of England Henry II in 1166 .
