Otheruses Carcassonne disambiguation Carcassonne Hunters and Gatherers is a German style board game . As a member of the Carcassonne board game Carcassonne family of board games, it is developed by Klaus J rgen Wrede and distributed by Hans im Gl ck in German and Rio Grande Games in English. Hunters and Gatherers has its setting in the countryside near Carcassonne , before the establishment of its famed city walls. Like the original game it is based on, the objective of the game is to score points through judicious placement of terrain tiles and followers colloquially referred to as meeples . The Carcassonne board game Expansions King and Scout expansion to Carcassonne provides an expansion to this game, titled Scout . Gameplay Like Carcassonne , Hunters and Gatherers begins with a single tile, and the game is over when all of the tiles are placed. At the start of each turn, a player takes a tile at random and places it adjacent to the existing tiles such that the features on the tiles are extended meadows to meadows, forests to forests, and rivers to rivers. If a player draws a tile that cannot be placed, they must discard the tile and choose a different tile, until there is a tile that may be suitably placed. After each tile is placed, the player may place one of their followers on the tile, which then claim ownership of a particular terrain feature either a forest, river, or meadow. A player may place a follower only if no other followers have claimed the feature however, over time, it is possible that followers may share the same features due to placement of new tiles. Each player is only given seven followers two fishing huts and five ordinary followers. Fishing huts are a new type of follower, not present in the original Carcassone, and each player is given two. A jam nut is a low profile type of nut hardware nut , typically half as tall as a standard nut. It is commonly used as a type of locknut , where it is jammed up against a standard nut to lock the two in place. It is also used in situations where a standard nut would not fit. A jam nut can also refer to any nut that is used in the same function. Use A jam nut is often used when a nut needs to be locked in place without clamping against another object. The jam nut essentially acts as the other object , as the two nuts are tightened against each other. They can also be used to secure an item on a fastener without applying force to that object. This is achieved by first tightening one of the nuts onto the item. Then the other nut is screwed down on top of the first nut. The inner nut is then slackened back and tightened against the outer nut. Note that jam nuts can be unreliable under significant loads. If the inner nut is torque d more than the outer nut, the outer nut may yield engineering yield . If the outer nut is torqued more than the inner nut, the inner nut may loosen up. ref Citation last Barrett first Rich title Fastener Design Manual url http www.designnotes.com companion barrett.html accessdate Mar 20 2009 . ref ref Citation title The Use of Two Nuts to Prevent Self Loosening url http www.boltscience.com pages twonuts.html accessdate Dec 31 2011 . ref References reflist Category Nuts hardware ... more details
A split nut is a nut hardware nut that consists of two pieces which can be clamped together to engage the thread of the nut with the Screw Bolt bolt , or released, to allow the nut to move along the bolt without turning the bolt. The two pieces have chamfered ends 60 to axis . The nut is split lengthwise so that it may be opened for quick adjustment. For a barrel nut with a flange Sex bolt A barrel nut is a specialized nut hardware nut that is commonly used in aerospace applications. It is used to bolt thin sheet metal parts to larger, often billet or forging forged , parts. The barrel nut is a round slug, or formed sheet metal part with screw thread threads perpendicular to the length of the nut. The nut sits in a hole inside the forging and a standard machine screw is threaded into the barrel nut from outside the sheet metal. They are preferred over a standard nut and bolt, because they do not require a flange to be machined or forged onto the receiving part, thus reducing weight. ref Smith, pp. 107 108. ref References Notes reflist Bibliography Cite book last Smith first Carroll author link Carroll Smith title Carroll Smith s Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners, and Plumbing Handbook publisher MotorBooks MBI Publishing Company year 1990 url http books.google.com ?id A81HmmRCN7YC isbn 0879384069 . A flange nut is a nut hardware nut has a wide flange at one end that acts as an integrated, non spinning Washer hardware washer . This serves to distribute the pressure of the nut over the part being secured, reducing the chance of damage to the part and making it less likely to loosen as a result of an uneven fastening surface. These nuts are mostly hexagonal in shape and are made up of hardened steel and coated with zinc. The flange may be serrated to provide a locknut locking action . The serrations are angled such that they keep the nut from rotating in the direction that would loosen the nut. Because of the serrations they cannot be used with a washer or on surfaces that cannot be scratched. The serrations help in avoiding vibration of nut and increase the holding power of nut. The flange nuts are sometimes provided with a swivel flange which helps in creating a more stable structure without affecting finished product like a serrated flange nut. Swivel flange nuts are mostly used in joining wood and plastic. ref Citation last Barrett first Rich title Fastener Design Manual url http gltrs.grc.nasa.gov reports 1990 RP 1228.pdf accessdate 2008 12 02 . ref Sometimes both faces of the nut are serrated, permitting either side to lock. Orphan date November 2010 A well nut is a type of fastener used to blindly fasten a piece much like a molly fastener molly bolt and to seal the bolt hole. It consists of a flanged neoprene Bushing isolator bushing with a Nut hardware nut embedded in the non flanged end. The bolt is passed through one of the pieces to be fastened and threaded onto the nut from the flanged end. The non flanged end is then inserted through the other piece to be fastened. As the bolt is tightened, friction from the neoprene flange against the piece being fastened prevents the nut from turning. The bushing is compressed by the nut, forming a lip behind the piece being fastened, which compresses the fastened piece and seals the bolt hole. It can also be used in a solid workpiece. As the screw draws the embedded nut towards it, the walls of the well exert a force on the hole walls, anchoring it. ref name smith Smith, pp.  112 114. ref Well nuts are not particularly strong, but are useful for sealing holes and or isolating vibrations. ref Smith, p.  114. ref The well nut was originally developed by the United Shoe Machinery Corporation . ref name smith See also Nut hardware References reflist Bibliography Citation last Smith first Carroll author link Carroll Smith title Carroll Smith s Nuts, Bolts, Fasteners, and Plumbing Handbook publisher MotorBooks MBI Publishing Company year 1990 url http books.google.com ?id A81HmmRCN7YC isbn 0879384069 .
