Internationally he is best known for his work as a bassist in The Sugarcubes , the avant garde pop band from Iceland that brought fame to Bj rk , who went on to solo success with her unique brand of dance pop. The Sugarcubes, who favored strange, offbeat melodies, came together in 1986, but the Sugarcubes members had played together in different combinations in various Icelandic groups before. Bragi and Einar rn Benediktsson trumpet vocals had released records on Einar s own label, Gramm . In 1986 Bragi also launched his writing career, publishing his first book, a poetry volume called Drags gur Draught . In 1992 The Sugarcubes disbanded as Bj rk began her solo career. Bragi, meanwhile, has continued to work on Bad Taste Ltd. , the company formed by the Sugarcubes to publish poetry and sign other bands but is no longer a practising musician. He enjoys considerable success as a novelist, playwright and poet in Iceland, having twice been nominated to the Icelandic Literature Prize .     Purrkur Pillnikk Sleepy Chess Player is a Rock music rock band from late Punk rock punk era in Iceland . The band existed for 18 months 1981 1982 and were very active as they released at least two LPs, one live album and two EPs. The distinguishable character of the band were Einar rn s howling and off key singing and his lyrics that most often described very day to day things but with a lot of interwoven angst. Members of the band later found themselves in KUKL band KUKL , or in 1986 in the Sugarcubes . The members were sgeir R. Bragason , Bragi lafsson , Einar rn Benediktsson and Fri rik Erlingsson . The three latter ones formed Bad Taste record label Smekkleysa Bad Taste publishing house in Reykjav k with friends and were also members of The Sugarcubes.
