    Orphan date February 2009 The School of Liberal Arts SOLA was a private coeducational university preparatory school located in Toronto . It was founded in 1989 by David L. Ferguson and G. Michael MacConnell, and closed in early 2010. It focused on the liberal arts and employed Socratic method as the preferred style of teaching, enhanced by a close teacher student relationship with the latter calling their teachers by their first names, as well as small class sizes approx. 1 12 on average and an interdisciplinary approach. The school functioned on the semester system with students undertaking a maximum of four courses per session. While a full load of courses is the norm, single courses were also available. The school graduated between 80 and 100 students per year, 96 of whom attend the university of their choice. SOLA offered semestered, summer school and study abroad courses for day school and summer school students.     Liberal Arts, Inc. was the name of an unsuccessful corporation founded in late 1946, which intended to create a Great Books based liberal arts college in Stockbridge, Massachusetts . It is notable for failing despite the involvement of four educators of stellar reputation, and an offer of an apparently generous endowment, later withdrawn under unclear circumstances. History In 1937, Stringfellow Barr and Scott Buchanan successfully established the Great Books curriculum at St. John s College, U.S. St. John s College Annapolis, Maryland , which continues to the present day. In 1946, Barr resigned the presidency of that institution with the hearty good wishes of the board of trustees to found a new college. According to Glen Edward Avery ref avery , Barr thought St. John s had grown too large and feared that its land was about to be seized by the U.S. Navy for its own academy. It consists of two years of pre medical courses Learning Units I and II and five years in Medicine Proper Learning Units III VII . Medicine Proper comprises four years of regular medical studies Learning Units III VI and one year of clinical internship Learning Unit VII . Admission There are two entry points to the College of Medicine direct entry to Learning Unit I and lateral entry to Learning Unit III First Year Medicine Proper . Effective school year 2009 2010, all applicants are required to sign a return service agreement RSA . Learning Unit I High school graduates who have met the requirements for admission to the University of the Philippines System are eligible for admission to LU I. Applications are coursed through the University of the Philippines System General Admission Process. The LU I Intarmed students are selected from the top 50 male and top 50 female college freshmen qualifiers ranked according to their University Predicted Grade UPG who indicated in the U.P. College Admission Test UPCAT application form their interest in Intarmed. Only 40 direct entrants 20 males and 20 females are finally admitted into the program following a selection process which includes an interview. Learning Unit III First Year Medicine Proper Only applicants who will have obtained their baccalaureate degree Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts by the end of the preceding Philippine school year are eligible.
