It is 496  km long and is named after the word for Mars in Babylonian language Babylonian . ref http planetarynames.wr.usgs.gov ref The western half of Nirgal Valles is a branched system, but the eastern half is a tightly sinuous, deeply entrenched valley. Nirgal Valles ends at Uzboi Vallis . Tributaries are very short and end in steep walled valley heads, often called amphitheater headed valleys. The shape of these valley heads is like cirques on the Earth. ref Baker, V. 1982. The Channels of Mars. University of Texas Press. Austin ref Nirgal Vallis and sapping Nirgal Valles is one of the longest valley networks on Mars. It is so large that it is found on more than one quadrangle. Scientists are not sure about how all the ancient river valleys were formed. There is evidence that instead of rain or snow, the water that formed the valleys originated under ground. One mechanism that has been advanced is sapping. ref http themis.la.asu.edu zoom 20030916a.html ref In this case, the ground just gives away as water comes out. Sapping is common in some desert areas in America s Southwest. 1. Hirayama family

A Hirayama family of asteroid s is a group of minor planet s that share similar orbital elements , such as semimajor axis , eccentricity orbit eccentricity , and orbital inclination . The members of the families are thought to be fragments of past asteroid collisions. Strictly speaking, families and their membership are identified by analysing the so called proper orbital elements rather than the current osculating orbit osculating orbital elements , which regularly fluctuate on timescales of tens of thousands of years. The proper elements are related constants of motion that are thought to remain almost constant for times of at least tens of millions of years. The Japan ese astronomer Kiyotsugu Hirayama 1874 1943 pioneered the estimation of proper elements for asteroids, and first identified several of the most prominent families in 1918 http www.daviddarling.info encyclopedia H Hirayama family.html . Kiyotsugu Hirayama initially identified the Koronis family Koronis , Eos family Eos , and Themis family Themis families, and later recognized also the Flora family Flora and Maria family Maria families. It is 317  km long and was named after an ancient river in Greece . Some authors have identified these structures as outflow channels , but their origin and history remain ambiguous. ref Carr, M.H. 2006 , The Surface of Mars. Cambridge Planetary Science Series, Cambridge University Press. ref Hebrus Valles has tributary tributaries , terraces, and teardrop shaped islands. These features are all characteristic of erosion by fluid flow, but may or may not support the identification of this feature as carved by a single catastrophic outburst flood of water as the term outflow channel would imply . gallery Image Hebrus Valles from Themis.JPG Hebrus Valles, as seen from Themis.
