  1. Francis Adorno

Orphan date February 2009 Francis Adorno 1521 January 13, 1586 was a celebrated Italy Italian preacher. He was a member of the family of the last Doge of Genoa , and was born three years after the name of the Adorno family Adorni was suppressed, and the office of Doge abolished. This measure was taken to put an end to the strife of 165 years between that family and the Fregosi , whose name also was changed. This political revolution was effected by Andrea Doria , the famous Genoese admiral. Francis entered the Society of Jesus in Portugal , whither he had been sent to pursue his studies. He was recalled to Rome , where he taught theology , and gained at the same time the reputation of being one of the greatest orators in Italy. He was the first rector of the College of Milan , and was subsequently charged with the administration of several houses of the Order. He was the friend, adviser, and confessor of St. Charles Borromeo . He died at Genoa . Besides two volumes De Disciplina Ecclesiastic , which he wrote at the request of St. Charles, there remain his sermons, some Latin verse, counsels to Herbert Foglieta De Ratione Illustrand Ligurum Histori , and, in the Biblioteca Ambrosiana , a treatise on Usury . 1. Antoniotto II Adorno

Antoniotto II Adorno c. 1479 12 September 1528 was Doge of Genoa from 1522 to 1527. An enemy of doge Giano II di Campofregoso , in 1512 he allied with King Louis XII of France in the course of the Italian Wars between France and Spain, and attacked Genoa . The defeat suffered by the French at battle of Novara 1513 Novara forced him to take refuge in Milan . Antoniotto tried two further attacks against Genoa in 1513 and 1514, both without success. When the new doge, Ottaviano di Campofregoso , during the French occupation of Lombardy September 1515 , allied with Francis I of France , Antoniotto switched to the Spanish party. The Spanish victory at the battle of Bicocca 1522 granted him the position of doge. In the same year he had the port of Savona destroyed in retaliation for their rebellion against the Republic of Genoa . He held the title, with little popular support, for five years until, attacked by the French general Odet de Foix and by Andrea Doria , he left Genoa. He retired to Milan, where he died in 1528. 1. Theodor Wulf

Theodor Wulf July 28, 1868 June 19, 1946 was a Germany German physicist and Jesuit priest who was one of the first experimenters to detect excess Earth atmosphere atmospheric radiation . Theodor Wulf became a Jesuit priest at the age of 20, before studying physics with Walther Nernst at the University of G ttingen . He taught physics at Valkenburg aan de Geul Valkenburg , a Jesuit University from 1904 to 1914 and 1918 1935. He designed and built an electrometer which could detect the presence of energetic charged particles or electromagnetic waves . Since natural radiation sources on the ground were detected by his electrometer, he predicted that if he moved far enough away from those sources he would detect less radiation. To test his hypothesis, in 1910 he compared the radiation at the bottom and the top of the Eiffel Tower . He found that the ionisation fell from 6 ions cm sup 3 sup to 3.5 ions cm sup 3 sup as he ascended the Eiffel Tower 330m . If the ionisation had been due to &gamma rays originating at the surface of the Earth, the intensity of ions should have halved in 80m. ref name Lon1981 cite book last Longair first M.S. title High energy astrophysics year 1981 publisher Cambridge University Press location Cambridge, UK isbn 0 521 23513 8 pages 11 ref Energy was coming from outside the Earth s atmosphere and being detected by his device this radiation was from cosmic rays .
