It was opened in October 2003. Background The Museum of Brisbane MoB occupies the former site of the Brisbane City Gallery in City Hall, and is a social history museum that explores ideas and stories that illuminate Brisbane s past and present and helps visitors to imagine Brisbane s future. The museum was created in response to feedback that a museum for and about the people of Brisbane was needed. Over 1,500,000 people have visited the Museum since its opening. Display Program The MoB has a changing exhibition program that celebrates Brisbane through social history, visual arts, craft and design. All MoB exhibitions are founded on a strong community based relationship. Artist s curators and community groups all provide input into the exhibitions and local products sold in the MoB Store. Each exhibition generally lasts for six to eight weeks. Entrance to MoB exhibitions are free. Gift Shop The MoB also features a large gift shop, with a special focus on local Brisbane artisan craft and works. There is also a special viewing area where visitors can view an artisan at work. Opening Hours The MoB is open 7 days a week, from 10am to 5pm, except for Anzac Day and Christmas Day. The Lady Brisbane is one of the ships operated by Brisbane Cruises, which has been operating since 1987. Originally built to operate out to the Great Barrier Reef , the Lady Brisbane was built in 1972 by Milkraft in Brisbane, and has been renovated. Unreferenced date September 2008 On Saturday 26th November 2011, the Lady Brisbane accidentally grounded on the beach just north of the Tangalooma Resort on Moreton Island. No injuries were sustained, and her passengers were returned to Brisbane by another vessel. She remained stranded until the following day when another Spring Tide enabled her release.
