ThomasFairfax, 1st Viscount Fairfax of Emley 1575 23 December 1636 was an English landowner and politician who sat in the House of Commons of England House of Commons at various times between 1601 and 1626. He was created Viscount Fairfax in the Peerage of Ireland in 1629. Fairfax was the son of Sir William Fairfax of Gilling Castle and Walton. At one period he professed theology at Li ge , and in 1685 he was minister at Ghent . On the accession of James II of England , the provincial Father John Keynes Jesuit John Keynes asked the general of the Society to allow those most fit to take the degree of D.D those who had professed theology at Li ge took the degree at Tr ves dn date August 2011 , among them being Fairfax, under the assumed name of Beckett. On 31 December 1687 James II sent a letter to Samuel Parker English bishop Samuel Parker , bishop of Oxford , who had been made president of Magdalen College, Oxford , commanding him to admit Fairfax and other Catholics to fellowships. It is stated that Fairfax was appointed professor of philosophy in Magdalen College, and that he was well versed in the oriental languages.
