He studied at the University of Oxford , matriculation matriculating as a member of Jesus College, Oxford Jesus College in 1674 before obtaining his Bachelor of Arts BA in 1677 and his MA Oxon MA in 1680. After his ordination as a priest in the Church of England , he appears to have succeeded his father, William Williams, as rector of a church near Abergele , north Wales. In 1828, he was admitted to the Pennsylvania bar and began practicing in Greensburg. In 1832, he moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and continued in private practice. Williams served in the Pennsylvania Senate from 1838 to 1841, then returned to private practice. During the American Civil War , Williams returned to public office, this time becoming a United States representative, a position he held from March 4, 1863 March 4, 1869. Thomas Wheeler Williams September 28, 1789 December 31, 1874 was a United States House of Representatives U.S. Representative from Connecticut . Born in Stonington, Connecticut , Williams attended the public schools. A grammar fix may be needed here. At the age of fifteen was employed as a clerk in New York City, and before he was twenty one was employed on a business mission to Norway, Sweden, and Russia. A grammar fix may be needed here. For about eight years was engaged in the shipping business. He moved to New London, Connecticut , in 1818 and became a prominent figure in the whaling business. Williams was elected as a Whig Party United States Whig to the 26th United States Congress Twenty sixth and 27th United States Congress Twenty seventh Congresses March 4, 1839 March 3, 1843 . He served as chairman of the Committee on Mileage Twenty sixth and Twenty seventh Congresses . He served as member of the State house of representatives in 1846 and 1847. He served as president of the New London, Willamantic and Palmer Railroad later the New London Northern Railroad in 1847 and for many years thereafter. Thomas Charles Williams 28 August 1868 29 September 1927 was a Wales Welsh Calvinistic Methodist minister, who served as Moderator of the denomination s General Assembly. Life Williams, who was born on 28 August 1868 in Gwalchmai , Anglesey , north Wales , was the son of a Church of England Welsh Anglican priest his mother s father, and four of her brothers, were also clergymen. He studied at Jesus College, Oxford , graduating in 1897, and later obtained a Doctorate of Divinity degree from the University of Edinburgh . After leaving Oxford, he moved to Menai Bridge and served as the minister of the Calvinistic Methodist church there until his death on 29 September 1927. He preached in both English and Welsh, and was highly respected as a preacher.
