Many usually poorer countries insist that you hold a flight ticket out from their country, which must be presented upon arrival at immigration. They set this requirement, so that if travellers run out of money, the country is still certain that the traveller will leave and not stick around . In the past, it has already come forward that travellers just take a illegal job and remain within the country. If you do not have an onward ticket, you may be turned away in these countries with little choice, but to get back on the next plane home. Unreferenced date December 2009 Orphan date December 2009 In contract contract law , ticket cases are a series of cases that stand for the proposition that if you are handed a ticket or another document with terms, and you retain the ticket or document, then you are bound by those terms. Whether you have read the terms or not is irrelevant, and in a sense, using the ticket is analogous to signing the document. This issue is an important one due to the proliferation of exclusion clause s that accompany tickets in everyday transactions. The case of Parker v. The South Eastern Railway Co 1877 2 CPD 416 illustrates restrictions on this concept Knowledge of writing and of terms If the recipient of the ticket knew that there was writing on the ticket and also knew that the ticket contained terms, then the recipient is bound by the terms of the contract. Reasonable person If the recipient did not know of the existence of the terms, then the court will consider whether a reasonable person would have known that the ticket contained terms. If that is so, then the ticket holder is bound by those terms if not, then the court will return to the general test of whether reasonable notice of the terms was given. The test of whether a document fits within the description of a ticket is an objective test, that is, whether a reasonable person in the position of the ticket holder would perceive it to be contractual in nature. For instance, if exclusion clauses accompany a docket, it may be held that it is not contractual in nature since it is just a receipt. Furthermore, Interfoto Picture Library Ltd v. Stiletto Visual Programmes Ltd 1989 1 QB 433 held that if a party wishes to incorporate onerous terms into a document that is to be just accepted by the other party, reasonable notice must be given to make it a term of the contract. A ticket exchange is a market where tickets are bought and sold. Secondary market Ticket Exchanges, alternatively known as Ticket Brokers, allow the public to advertise, trade, sell, and buy unwanted tickets online. For example, say you bought tickets to the football and you can t go or you re a season ticket holder but you don t attend every game. Ticket Exchanges allow you to trade your tickets with other fans wanting to attend these events. This gives the consumer the chance to recoup their hard earned money. In some cases ticket exchanges have been used by ticket scalpers to sell tickets. Scalpers would purchase tickets in bulk from the promoter hoping that the tickets would sell out causing an increase in demand for tickets and thus an increase in the ticket price, which allowed scalpers to profit on this margin. ref http blog.getyatickets.com.au 174 sell tickets ticket exchange ref Ticket exchange in air travel There are online marketplaces where private persons can offer their transferable flight tickets for sale. ref http www.jumpflight.com ref For travellers without a travel insurance, it can be a good way to cover the costs for a flight cancellation due to medical, personal, or professional reasons.
