  1. Tidal irrigation

Tidal irrigation is the subsurface irrigation of levee levee soils in coastal plain s with river water under tide tidal influence . It is applied in semi arid climate arid zones at the mouth of a large river estuary or river delta delta where a considerable tidal range some 2 m is present. The discharge hydrology river discharge must be large enough to guarantee a sufficient flow of fresh water into the sea so that no salt water intrusion occurs in the river mouth. The irrigation is effectuated by digging tidal canals from the river shore into the main land that will guide the river water inland at high tide. br For the irrigation to be effective the soil must have a high infiltration capacity to permit the entry of sufficient water in the soil to cover the evapotranspiration demand of the crop. br At low tide, the canals and the soil drain out again, which promotes the aeration of the soil. During the neap tide, when the tidal current strength is weakest, smaller quantities of finer grains are deposited. As the tidal variation grows larger, towards the spring tide, larger quantities of coarser material will be deposited which results in an increasing bed thickness. Bed thickness will be greatest at the spring tide and then decreases as the tidal variation grows smaller, towards the neap tide again and the thinnest beds. Significance The presence of tidal bundles depends on the presence of spring and neap tides, which can only occur in three body gravitational systems the Earth, the Sun and the Moon . Therefore, the earliest time from which tidal bundles can be identified gives a conclusive lower bound on the age of the Moon. 1. Creek (tidal)

Other uses Creek disambiguation A tidal creek , tidal channel , or estuary is the portion of a stream that is affected by ebb and flow of ocean tide s, in the case that the subject stream discharges to an ocean, sea or strait. Thus this portion of the stream has variable salinity and electrical conductivity over the tidal cycle. Due to the temporal variability of water quality parameters within the tidally influenced zone, there are unique biota ecology biota associated with tidal creeks, which biota are often specialised to such zones. Creeks may often dry to a muddy channel with little or no flow at low tide, but often with significant depth of water at high tide.
