When Hersey departed the company in the summer of 1929, Wyn, after a brief interlude from Harold S. Goldsmith, took charge of the company. Hersey s swastika logo was dropped to be replaced by an ace symbol. The company took on the brand, Ace Magazines . Smeaton was born in Carleton Place, Ontario . In his first game in 1913, between the Montreal Canadiens and the Montreal Wanderers of the National Hockey Association , he was confronted by Newsy Lalonde after calling an offside ice hockey offside . Smeaton promptly fined Lalonde 5 Lalonde who was known as a bit of a tightwad never repeated the incident . In 1916, he joined the Canadian military to serve in World War I in the 11th Canadian Siege Battery in France . He became the National Hockey League s first referee in chief when the NHL formed in 1917. He was the head coach of the National Hockey League Philadelphia Quakers NHL Philadelphia Quakers during the one season they played, 1930 31 NHL season 1930 31 , finishing out of the playoffs. He retired in 1937 after officiating many Stanley Cup and Allan Cup finals, and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961. He was also the trustee of the Stanley Cup from February 24, 1946 until his death on October 3, 1978 at age 88. The live action version had been telecast on Dec. 23 1956 on the NBC anthology series The Alcoa Hour , and was published on DVD in 2011, by VAI. As with previous Rankin Bass specials, animation duties were provided by a Japan ese studio, in this case Top Craft , which would later provide animation assistance for Hayao Miyazaki s Nausica of the Valley of the Wind film Nausica of the Valley of the Wind and the TV series Adventures of the Little Koala . Given that The Stingiest Man in Town was actually broadcast in Japan on Christmas Eve of 1978 under the title Machi Ichiban Kechinbo , it is listed as an anime in some sources. Scrooge throws them away to the streets through a concealed scaffold and rebuts further attempts from Donald to get the donation by exposing Scrooge as a tightwad. However, when Huey, Dewey and Louie learn from Scrooge s staff the real reason of his bad mood, they try to solve his problem by suggesting to him to blow hot air into the money pile. Scrooge gladly accepts the suggestion and states that he will give them the donation if their plan works out. Unfortunately, too much air is blown causing the Money Bin to crack open. Scrooge collapses after hearing about the repair expenses and an untimely comment about the promised donation and is forced by his doctor to go on vacations.
