    labour Frederick George Tipping was a labour organizer in Manitoba , Canada . He was involved in the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919, and subsequently ran for office as a candidate of the Dominion Labour Party in Manitoba Labour Party . Tipping s personal beliefs were strongly influenced by the England English socialist Robert Blatchford . He was a founder of the Social Democratic Party of Canada in 1911, and was a prominent social democrat in Winnipeg s north end during the 1910s. Distinguishing the SDP from the more doctrinaire Socialist Party of Canada , he once wrote that the doctrinal body is liable to use terminology that is peculiar to itself, but the language of the social democrat tended to be more the language of the street 1 . Tipping was elected to the Winnipeg trades council during this period, and helped to form in the Dominion Labour Party Manitoba Dominion Labour Party in 1918. Tipping holds the unique distinction of being the only teacher to participate in the Winnipeg General Strike. He taught shop classes, and so was a member of the Winnipeg carpenter s union. William Tipping was the fourth son of Sir George Tipping 1560 1627 of Wheatfield, Oxfordshire by his wife, Dorothy 1564 1637 , daughter of Sir John Borlase high sheriff John Borlase of Little Marlow , Buckinghamshire . He was the uncle of Thomas Tipping knight Sir Thomas Tipping the Elder. Tipping attended Queen s College, Oxford and entered Lincoln s Inn but did not become a lawyer. He returned to the Manor of Draycot, Oxfordshire to pursue a scholarly life. He married, about 1627, to Ursula, daughter of Sir Edward Brett of Edmonton, London Edmonton , Middlesex , and together they had two sons and two daughters. In 1633, he published A Discourse of Eternitie which earned him the nickname of Eternity Tipping . He subsequently appeared before the court of high commission several times on charges of puritan practice. A Return of Thankfulness 1640 and the Calvinism Calvinist Father s Counsell 1643 followed. Then The Preachers Plea 1646 and The Remarkable Life and Death of the Lady Apollina Hall 1647 . He died in Waterstock , Oxfordshire on 2 February 1649 and is buried in the church there. US descendants? It is often erroneously stated that two of Tipping s children, Wlliam and Dorothy, emigrated to Talbot County, Maryland in 1664. However, William Tipping Junior lived all his life in London . He married and had a family of six children in Westminster , including Rev Dr Ichabod Tipping , the Vicar of Camberwell .     The Gwynne Evans , later Evans Tipping Baronetcy , of Oaklands Park in Awre in the County of Gloucester, is a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom . It was created on 17 June 1913 for William Gwynne Evans. He received Royal license to continue the use of the additional surname of Gwynne which was that of his maternal grandfather in 1913. The second Baronet served as High Sheriff of Gloucestershire in 1943. The fourth Baronet assumed by deed poll the names of Francis Loring Gwynne Evans Tipping in lieu of those of Francis Loring Gwynne Evans in 1943 but resumed his patronymic of Gwynne Evans by deed poll in 1958. Family Sir Thomas was the eldest son of John Tipping of Wheatfield, Oxfordshire and his wife, Anne daughter of Sir Christopher Pigott of Doddershall in Buckinghamshire . He was baptised in Wheatfield parish church on 10 December 1615, but his father died when he was only four years old. In 1627, Tipping inherited the Wheatfield estate upon the death of his grandfather, Sir George Tipping . Four years later, he matriculated from Trinity College, Oxford at the age fifteen. He married, in 1637, Elizabeth 1620 1698 youngest daughter and co heiress of Sir White Beconshaw of Moyles Court at Ellingham, Hampshire , by whom he had five sons and eleven daughters, only eight of whom survived him. Career From 1647, Tipping served on various local Oxfordshire commissions. Although sometimes referred to as a cavalier Royalist who walked a tightrope during the Civil War, Tipping, in fact, appears to have been something of a Parliamentarian like his more outspoken uncle, the Puritan and Parliamentarian writer, William Eternity Tipping .
