Scene study is a technique used to teach acting . One or more actor s perform a drama tic Scene fiction scene and are then offered feedback from teachers, classmates, or each other. Scene Study is a very broad description for an acting class that will vary depending on the teacher or school that teaches it. Its foundation is in the performance of a scene or a segment of a play by the students. From this performance the instructor gives notes and suggestions to improve the student s acting. Scene Study is instrumental for actors to get experience being directed. For beginning actors the Scene Study class may also include acting exercises that help them develop their technique. These exercises may help with skills such as emotional connection or character development and for the real novice it may be used to teach the vocabulary of acting for example terms like down stage and subtext . However, most Scene Study classes are used for actors who already have their training and technique and now need the opportunity to take their skills and apply them towards performing on stage or on set. The best Scene Study classes will be able to keep improving an actor s technique, as well as give them the opportunity to be directed and see if they are able to perform to a director s specification. Scene Study is important because it allows an actor to see if all the techniques and exercises they use in class can be harnessed to create an honest and dynamic performance. no footnotes date June 2010 An ecological study is an epidemiological study in which the unit of analysis is a population rather than an individual. For instance, an ecological study may look at the association between smoking and lung cancer deaths in different countries. An ecological study is normally regarded as inferior to non ecological designs such as cohort study cohort and case control study case control studies because it is susceptible to the ecological fallacy . An example of an ecological study is the analysis of the effects of disinfection byproducts on newborn babies, using 109 Massachusetts towns as units of analysis Wright et al. 2004 . For an environmental definition of this term see Ecology . Ecological studies can be easily confused with cohort studies, especially if different cohorts are located in different places. The difference is that in the case of ecological studies there is no information available about the individual members of the populations compared e.g. comparing several states based on state wide average air pollution and state wide average prevalence of respiratory diseases whereas in a cohort study the data pair exposure health is known for each individual. In spite of their weaknesses, ecological studies are useful because they can be carried out easily, quickly and inexpensively using data that are generally already available. If interesting and strong associations are observed, the results of ecological studies can provide the opportunity for later, more carefully designed studies though more expensive and time consuming to build on the initial observations. Lesson Study or kenkyu jugyo is a teaching improvement process that has origins in Japan ese elementary education , where it is a widespread professional development practice. Working in a small group, teachers collaborate with one another, meeting to discuss learning goals, to plan an actual classroom lesson called a research lesson , to observe how it works in practice, and then to revise and report on the results so that other teachers can benefit from it. Despite differences between Japanese and American educational systems see Education in Japan and Education in the United States , the practice is gaining in popularity in the United States in K 12 education and teacher training , and more recently it is finding a home in higher education as a form of faculty development . This is a specific example of the on going Japanese devotion to the Plan Do Check Act PDCA decision making discipline pioneered by W. unreferenced date August 2008 Independent study is a form of education offered by many high schools, colleges, and other educational institutions around the world. It is sometimes referred to as directed study. It is most usually when a student and a professor or teacher agree upon a topic for the student to further research outside of school with loose guidance from the instructor for an agreed upon amount of credits. For elementary and junior high, it is sometimes a GATE study where the student receives a packet and must research their topic and formulate and answer questions. At the end, they develop and present a product, although not all GATE systems participate in this action. There is a vast array of charter schools throughout the country that are providing independent study and Homeschooling in a variety of instructional formats online, in person or some hybrid of online in person interaction. Suffice to say that this format is not for everyone, but as the need for personalized learning and school safety continues to be a major issue for many students and their families, this educational option should continue to grow in popularity. Students from developing countries aspire to learn from universities of developed countries, as these universities are known to have high standards, but do not have sufficient resources, for instance, money for accommodation, the realty prices in developed countries is too high for developing countries students to accommodate. Hence, they take up Independent Study , they purchase their own course materials and try to fulfill their dreams to get such a degree of high standards. education stub Category Education th ... more details
