  1. Trauma shears

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Image Aa trauma shears.jpg thumb Trauma shears and foot ruler Trauma shears , also known as tuff cuts , are a type of scissors used by paramedic s and other emergency medical personnel to quickly and safely cut clothing from injured people. They usually consist of a plastic handle with a metal blade, which is traditionally bent at about 150 degrees, giving them an unusual appearance as compared to normal scissors, and also a longer lever arm . The shears were designed exclusively for external use and are not suitable for surgical or invasive procedures. Their rugged construction enables them to cut through strong materials such as car seat belt s, leather , and denim , and even thin metal and other hard surfaces including a US penny . They are increasingly being used by fishermen, soldiers and scuba divers as safer alternatives to knives. The wide, blunt tip on the shears is designed to slide across skin, minimizing the risk of injuring the patient while cutting clothing. Bandage scissors are similar in design, though smaller, and are primarily used for sizing or removing dressings and bandages. 1. Grass shears

Refimprove date August 2008 File Gardena Grasschere klassisch.jpg thumb Gardena AG Gardena grass shears Grass shears differ from pruning shears in being long handled and having the handles at right angles to the blades. They can be used to cut grass from a standing position. Two kinds are available with the blades horizontal and with the blades vertical. Horizontal blades are used to remove grasses which have not been cut by the lawn mower . Vertical blades are used for trimming the edges of a lawn. In 1939, a version of the Vertical Grass Shears was invented in which a long handle with a lever and wheels at the bottom with the shears was attached. This enabled the users to trim the edge of the grass near the sidewalk and driver ways. Powered trimmers have for all practical purposes replaced this type of grass shears. ref http books.google.com books?id jikDAAAAMBAJ&pg PA87&dq popular science 1930&hl en&ei zL7ZTpqAGori0QHb8dnoDQ&sa X&oi book result&ct result&resnum 7&ved 0CEoQ6AEwBjhG v onepage&q&f true Grass Shears on Wheels. 1. Crocodile shears

for a type of temporary electrical connector crocodile clip The crocodile shears was an instrument of torture used in late medieval Europe and typically reserved for regicide s, viz. , those who attempted and, perhaps, succeeded to assassinate the king. Made of iron, the shears were based upon the concept of pincers, but instead of standard jaws or blades ended in a pair of hemicylindrical blades that, when closed together, formed a long, narrow tube. The insides of the blades were generously lined with teeth or spikes. After being heated red hot, the crocodile shears were applied to the penis , which, once exposed to sufficient tension, was torn from the prisoner s body or, at the least, was severely mutilated. References The Book of Torture and Execution by Richard Sair usually credited to its editor, Arnold Hirsch, M.D., insofar as Sair s name appears nowhere in the work, only in the U.S. Library of Congress card catalogue, which indexes it under HV8593 .S3 Delta .
