Amalhar or Amalarius Fortunatus c.775 &ndash c.850 was the third Archbishop of Trier from 809 until 814. Amalhar was a pupil of Alcuin of York . In 809, Charlemagne appointed him to the see of Trier and in 813 he was sent as the chief Frankish ambassador to the court of Michael I Rhangabes at Constantinople . On Charlemagne s death in 814, Amalhar resigned his see. Nevertheless he remained a partisan of Louis the Pious throughout the tumult of his reign. In 831, Amalhar travelled to Rome to meet Pope Gregory IV and arrange a new German liturgy. In 835, he replaced Agobard at the Synod of Diedenhofen and implemented liturgical reforms. In 838, on the accusation of heresy, the Synod of Quierzy banned some of his works. He died around ten years later at Metz . Carola Strauss Trier 1913 2000 was born in Germany in 1913. She and her family lived and worked in Europe until the Second World War, when she was sent to a Nazi run detention camp in France. She escaped and immigrated to New York in 1942. Carola married Edgar Trier and supported herself in the United States as a dancer, acrobat, and most notably a roller skating contortionist, before a devastating injury brought her to Joseph Pilates Joseph and Clara Pilates , founders of the Pilates method of exercise and strength training. In the late 1950s, having been trained by the Pilates, she opened her own Contrology studio and later furthered her anatomical knowledge at New York City s Lenox Hill Hospital, where she aided Dr. Henry Jordan with patient rehabilitation and research. Trier combined her medical and Pilates experiences to develop various exercises and stretching techniques for dancers, many of which are still in use. In 1982, Trier authored a book for children entitled Exercise, What it is, What it Does , which introduced and emphasized the benefit and enjoyment of exercising both alone and with friends. Trier was an active teacher, lecturer, and practitioner until the late 1980s, serving as a coach for choreographer Gloria Contreras until 1985. Wenrich of Trier was a German ecclesiastico political writer of the eleventh century. Biography He was a canon priest canon at Verdun , and afterwards scholasticus at Trier . Sigebert of Gembloux Patrologia Latina , CXL, 584 sq. calls him also Bishop of Vercelli , but the early documents of the diocese leave no place for him in the list of bishops. Work Wenrich is the author of an able controversial treatise on behalf of Holy Roman Emperor Henry IV during his struggle with Pope Gregory VII the Conflict of Investitures . It was probably written in the summer of 1081, at the urgency of Bishop Dietrich of Verdun, to whom it has also been ascribed. The form is that of an open letter to the pope the tone is friendly, as though what he had to say was painful to the author. Wenrich disputes the efficiency of the emperor s excommunication 1080 , opposes the laws of celibacy promulgated by the pope, condemns the inciting of the people against the emperor, defends investiture s by texts of Scripture and the history of the Church, upbraids Gregory for being an accomplice in the setting up of a rival king, and reminds the pope that he himself has been accused of unlawful striving after the papal dignity, and even of the use of force to attain this end. Image Pf rrenbach Wandmalerei Hl Wendelin.jpg thumb Saint Wendelin or Wendelin of Trier b. c. 554 probably d. 617 was a hermit and abbot . Life There is very little definite information about this saint . His earliest biographies two in Latin and two in German language German , did not appear until after 1417. The story as told there is that Wendelin was the son of a Scottish king. After a piously spent youth he secretly left his home on a pilgrimage to Rome. On his way back he settled as a hermit at Westrich in the Archbishopric of Trier Diocese of Trier . When a wealthy landowner criticized him for his idle life he entered his service as a herdsman, but later a miracle obliged the landowner to allow him to return to his solitude. Wendelin then established a company of hermits from which sprang the Benedictine Order Benedictine Tholey Abbey Abbey of Tholey in Saarland . He was consecration consecrated abbot about 597, according to the later legends, while Tholey was apparently founded as a collegiate body about 630. It is difficult to say how far the later biographers are trustworthy. Death and Veneration Wendelin was buried in his cell, and a chapel was built over the grave. The small town of Sankt Wendel grew up nearby. The saint s intercession was powerful in times of pestilence and contagious diseases among cattle. When in 1320 a pestilence was checked through the intercession of the saint, Baldwin, Archbishop of Trier had the chapel rebuilt. Baldwin s successor, Bohemond II, Archbishop of Trier Bohemond II , built the present beautiful Gothic architecture Gothic church, dedicated in 1360, to which the saint s relic s were transferred. Since 1506 they have rested in a stone ... feast is observed in the Diocese of Trier on 22 October. Iconography Portal Saints He is represented ... .
