The range borders to the north with the Colli Albani , to the east with the Ciociaria , to the south with the Monti Ausoni and to the west with the Agro Pontino Pontinian Plain . The highest peak is the Monte Semprevisa 1,536  m . The name derives probably from the Latin language Latin lapis stone , referring to the mountains limestone rocks. In ancient times the area was settled by the Volsci . The most striking natural feature is the Gardens of Norma, Lazio Ninfa . There are also numerous grotto es, including some of the most significant in central Italy. The Monti Picentini is a mountain range and national park in southern Italy, part of the Apennines , traditionally part in the Campania n Apennines. They are included between the Monti Lattari , the Partenio mount, the Irpinia n plateau and the Sele River Sele river valley. The highest peak is the Monte Cervialto 1,809  m , in the eastern sector, followed by the Monte Terminio 1,783  m , which is instead in the western part of the range. Geology, landscape and climate The range is mostly made up of dolostone and limestone rocks, different from the surroundings areas, which are dominated by sandstone rocks. A central depression, joining the valleys of the Calore Irpino and Tusciano rivers, divided the range in two geologically different sectors the western one, where rocks are predominantly dolostone , and the eastern one, mostly made up of limestone and has generally a less sharp landscape. Karst topography is widely present, from which, in the valleys below, originates several springs. Snow is present in winter over 1,000  m of altitude. Vegetation is generally low, somewhere mixed with chestnut woods. Biography In 1859 Monti graduated from law school in Padua Italy , and lately worked as an apprentice in Split city Split for a while. Along with Miho Klai , Natko Nodilo another Dalmatian Italian , Mihovil Pavlinovi and Konstantin Vojnovi he was one of the founders of the People s Party Kingdom of Dalmatia Croatian popular party Narodna stranka in Dalmatia, and the Illyrian movement . Since 1862 he worked in Knin as a lawyer, and in 1866 he became the president of the municipality. He has been elected as a deputy in the Dalmatian assembly five times in a row. On the first direct election he became a deputy in a royal council and was reelected in 1879 . In 1874 Monti renowned for his impartiality and honesty Fact date December 2008 defended the rights of the Italians of Dalmatia declaring in the Dalmatian assembly that half of the 98,000 population of the Dalmatian cities spoke Italian and needed Italian schools. His career was interrupted by the war, but he resumed his studies in 1950 by entering the Scuola di Canta of the Teatro alla Scala . In 1951, he made his official operatic debut at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Elvino in La sonnambula , a role he will remain closely associated with throughout his career. He sang widely in Italy, appearing in Le comte Ory at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence in 1952. In 1954, he appeared in an Italian television production of Il barbiere di Siviglia , opposite Rolando Panerai and Antonietta Pastori . His career quickly took an international turn. He appeared as Elvino at the Wexford Festival in 1952, returning the following year as Nemorino in L elisir d amore . He also made guest appearances in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and made his debut as Elvino opposite Anna Moffo at the San Francisco Opera in 1960. A stylish singer, Monti had a light and attractive voice, and can be heard on a number of recordings.
