The modern town was rebuilt in another place. 1952 Severo Kurilsk Tsunami was a major tsunami that hit Severo Kurilsk , Kuril Islands , Sakhalin Oblast , Russian SFSR , USSR , which occurred on 5 November 1952 at about 5 a.m. It led to the destruction of many settlements in Sakhalin Oblast and Kamchatka Oblast , while the main impact struck the town of Severo Kurilsk . The tsunami was generated by a major earthquake in the Pacific Ocean , 130 km from the shore of Kamchatka , with an estimated magnitude of 8.5. There were three waves about 15 18 m high. After the earthquake the majority of the Severo Kurilsk citizens fled to the surrounding hills, where they escaped the first wave. However, most of them returned to the town and were killed by the second wave. The third wave was minor. According to the authorities, out of a population of 6,000 people, 2,336 died. The remaining survivors were evacuated to continental Russia. The settlement was then rebuilt in another location. It is Fluid dynamics hydrodynamically shaped to offer protection from high waves. An example of such an architecture is where a laminar flow around a building will protect the walls. The structure can also rest on a hollow Masonry Concrete block masonry block that for example can hold a body of water to sustain a family. A design can include battered walls, cantilever steps and a wooden superstructure with the walls jutting out. Bamboo ply panels can be added to cover the sides. A structure like this, concomitant with its mechanical strength, will provide its occupants with independent potable water storage for an extended period of time. Mission statement cquote The Tsunami Children Foundation TCF is dedicated towards nurturing the quality of life and healing the physical and emotional well being of the Thai children orphaned by the Tsunami and others who might be impacted by similar traumatic events. The Tsunami Children Foundation was founded in Los Angeles, California by a dedicated group of Thai American activists who were determined to make a difference for the survivors of the 2004 tsunami in Khao Lak, Thailand . TCF was established by chef Tommy Tang, attorney Rosalyn Patamankanthin and Dr. Sunya Ratjatawan immediately after the event. The first official fundraiser was Meals for Miracles which yielded a small amount of seed money. Members of TCF began the process of planning a long term action plan in order to focus on extended recovery plans. With the steady guidance of the board, TCF was incorporated and recognized as a 501 c 3 non profit using the Federal government s fast track program for tsunami related non profits. Sometime during this process, English Professor David Hideo Maruyama would also join the team in order to work on documentation and potential grant opportunities. Other than in the art, the titles shared little in common, with, for example, Runaways comics Runaways and Sentinel comic Sentinel being aimed at children and younger teenagers and Mystique comics Mystique touching on espionage and darker themes better suited for an older audience. The results were a mixed bag. While New Mutants , Mystique , Runaways and Sentinel earned critical acclaim and a devoted fan following, Human Torch , Namor and Venom comics Venom were complete flops, with the last surviving to issue 18 only on the back of exceptionally high initial sales. The imprint was discontinued in late 2003. Mystique was the longest running title lasting until issue 24 overall, although it was absorbed into the regular, mainstream Marvel Comics imprint and had a change of writer as part of the X Men ReLoad event after issue 13, while New Mutants , also part of ReLoad, was relaunched from issue 1 as New X Men Academy X at the same time. Venom and Runaways carried the imprint branding for the longest period, lasting until issue 18, after which Runaways was briefly cancelled before being relaunched as part of the Marvel Next initiative, while Venom was canceled outright.
