    Unreferenced date December 2009 A tuboplasty is a surgical operation to correct a fallopian tube obstruction or adhesion, to achieve a pregnancy in women with tubal infertility . Thus, it is a form of assisted reproductive technology . Techniques A number of surgical techniques are performed through either a laparotomy or laparoscopy approach. Techniques include the use of microsurgery , laser , electrocautery , hydrodissection , mechanical dissection , and use of surgical stents , hoods, adhesions barriers, and more. Results depend on the underlying pathology and the skill of the surgeon. Ectopic pregnancy is a complication after a tuboplasty. History Prior to the advent of in vitro fertilization IVF surgical correction was the usual approach for women with tubal infertility who wanted to get pregnant. A balloon catheter is a type of soft catheter with an inflatable balloon at its tip which is used during a catheterization procedure to enlarge a narrow opening or passage within the body . The deflated balloon catheter is positioned, then inflated to perform the necessary procedure, and deflated again in order to be removed. Some common uses include angioplasty or balloon septostomy , via cardiac catheterization heart cath tuboplasty via uterus uterine catheterization Angioplasty balloon catheters Balloon catheters used in angioplasty are either of Over the Wire OTW or Rapid Exchange Rx design. When a balloon catheter is used to compress plaque within a clogged coronary artery it is referred to as a plain old balloon angioplasty or POBA. Balloon catheters are also utilized in the deployment of stents during angioplasty . Balloon catheters are supplied to the cath lab with a stent premounted on the balloon. When the cardiologist inflates the balloon it expands the stent. When the cardiologist subsequently deflates the balloon the stent stays behind in the artery and the balloon catheter can be removed. Stents that are used in conjunction with a balloon catheter are known as balloon expandable stents.   1. Vithal Nagesh Shirodkar

    V. N. Shirodkar or Vithal Nagesh Shirodkar April 27, 1899 1971 was a reputed India n Obstetrician and Gynecologist. Brief life Shirodkar was born in Shiroda , Goa . After graduated from Grant Medical College , he went to United Kingdom and obtained his Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1931. He was associated with Professor J. Chassar Moir , Victor Lack , J.D.Murdoch and others. He returned to India and joined J.J.Group of Hospitals in 1935 as Honorary Obstetrician and Gynecologist. He was an inimitable teacher and innovator. His most popular contribution is Cervical cerclage known as Shirodkar cerclage . His other contributions include operations for prolapse repair, tuboplasty and creation of neovagina. He published widely and took keen interest in Social Medicine . He was member of the Shantilal Shah Committee on Abortion s and also established the Family Planning Association of India . He was honored by the Government of India with Padma Bhushan in 1960 and Padma Vibhushan in 1971. Shirodkar Cerclage In 1955, Dr. Shirodkar described the Cervical cerclage operation, a surgery which stood for long time and used many surgeons in India even today.
