Image TuneShip.jpg thumb 300px Tuneship at the Viking Ship Museum The Tuneship Tuneskipet is a Viking era ship exhibited in the Viking Ship Museum in Oslo Viking Ship Museum in Bygd y , Oslo . The karv type ship was found at Haugen farm on Rolvs y in Tune, Norway Tune , stfold , Norway . The ship was built around AD 900, and is made of clinker boat building clinkered oak planks. It was found in a boat burial mound Norwegian B thaugen , from the Old Norse word haugr meaning mound or barrow . The site was excavated by archaeologist Oluf Rygh in 1867. The ship is fragmentary, but may have been up to 22 m long. It is 4.35 m wide and would have had 11 or 12 pairs of oars. The length of the keel is ca 14 metres. It is of rugged construction with naturally grown ribs, thick crossbeams and a solid gunwale .
