TUNIS T oronto Uni versity S ystem was a Unix like operating system , developed at the University of Toronto in the early 1980s. TUNIS was a portable operating system compatible with Version 7 Unix Unix V7 , but with a completely redesigned kernel computer science kernel , written in Concurrent Euclid programming language Concurrent Euclid . Programs that ran under Version 7 Unix Unix V7 could be run under TUNIS with no modification. TUNIS was designed for teaching, and was intended to provide a model for the design of well structured, highly portable, easily understood Unix like operating systems . It made extensive use of Concurrent Euclid programming language Concurrent Euclid modules to isolate machine dependencies and provide a clean internal structure through information hiding , and of Concurrent Euclid programming language Concurrent Euclid s built in processes and synchronization features to make it easy to understand and maintain. TUNIS targeted the PDP 11 and Motorola Motorola 6809 6809 and 68000 architectures, and supported distribution across multiple CPUs using Concurrent Euclid programming language Concurrent Euclid s synchronization features. The lake covers a total of 37 square kilometres, in contrast to its size its depth is very shallow. It was once the natural harbour of Tunis. History The Tunis Carthage connection was very important to the Roman Empire Romans , as it meant control over the fertile hinterland. The Romans therefore built a dam through the lake. The dam is used today as an expressway for automobiles and railway connecting Tunis to the harbour, La Goulette , and the coastal cities of Carthage, Sidi Bou Said , and La Marsa . The northern lake includes the island of Chikly , once home to a Spain Spanish stronghold, and now since 1993 a nature reserve. Due to the lake s continuing aggradation during the 19th century, the France French colonial forces traversed the lake with a 10  km long, 450  m wide, and 6  m deep canal. Development Recently, the Tunisian government and Sama Dubai of the UAE led by Dubai Governor Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum have joint ventured an investment agreement to develop the southern shore of the lake into a new commercial, residential and touristic center in Tunisia and the Mediterranean. Total costs of the investment, considered the biggest in Tunisia s history, will be around 18 billion USD. The project should be ready in the next 10 to 15 years.
