The Indooroopilly Island Conservation Park , located on an island in the Brisbane River , is the site of one of Australia s largest flying fox colonies. It is located seven kilometres west of the Brisbane central business district near the suburb of Indooroopilly, Queensland Indooroopilly . The Island comprises an area of 6.34 hectares ref EPA . Vegetation on the island consists of two species of mangroves and forest red gum eucalyptus trees. Weeds pose a threat to the ecology of the island and the survival of the flying fox colony. The name The Gap is from the gap between Taylor Range and Mt Coot tha which was the only access to this area in the early days.
