The UCLA Language Materials Project LMP maintains a web resource about teaching materials for some 150 languages that are Less Commonly Taught Languages less commonly taught in the United States . The project, funded by the U.S. Department of Education , was created in 1992. It is part of the University of California, Los Angeles UCLA Center for World Languages. Bibliographic Database of Teaching Materials The website provides full bibliographic information for over 7000 items, including textbooks, readers, phrasebooks, grammars, dictionaries, and supplementary materials that are distributed in print, audio, video, web and computerized instruction formats. It offers detailed descriptions of the content and other features of each material, to help users find the most appropriate tools for their individual teaching and learning needs. Items can be located quickly through menus displayed at the top of each webpage, or through an advanced search. The LMP does not sell the materials listed in the database, but does provide information on retailers and distributors where the materials can be obtained. Database and Guide to Authentic Materials The website also provides citations of about 1000 Authentic Materials, language materials originally intended for native speaker s rather than second language learner s. Because such items reflect current culture and actual language usage, they are much valued as teaching tools. The database presents native language posters, signs, advertisements, product labels, games, maps, schedules, and brochures that can be downloaded for free from the LMP website. There are also links to selected external websites that offer native language audio, video, and print resources. The Authentic Materials page provides a guide to using those materials in the classroom ... to communicate in the target language. Founded in 2002, Health Forecasting UCLA is headquartered at the http ph.ucla.edu UCLA School of Public Health and works closely with the http publichealth.lacounty.gov Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the http www.cdph.ca.gov Pages DEFAULT.aspx California Department of Public Health . Health Forecasting was established to provide health advocates and decision makers prospective analysis of the public health landscape through the development and communication of evidence based forecasts. The health forecasts include historical and future health trends and incorporate policy and programmatic interventions aimed at improving population health. The data and graphs generated are informative resources and analytic tools available for health advocates in their efforts to anticipate, prepare, and plan for healthier communities. Central to this work is the http www.health forecasting.org Model Health Forecasting Tool , an interactive statistical model and web based interface developed by researchers at UCLA. The tool is accessible online and allows anyone, from high level government officials to members of the community, to create a health profile for populations within a given region and gauge the future health impacts of changes in programs and policies. Users can access population level health information and outcomes of current and future populations and subgroups by race, ethnicity, age, gender, and geography. The tool also accounts for socio economic factors, behavioral characteristics, and demographic shifts in population. The tool was modeled after a statistical model created by http www.statcan.gc.ca microsimulation health sante health sante eng.htm Statistics Canada and operates using continuous time microsimulation .
